After lunchtime on a Friday its hard to concentrate on anything useful. At least its my boss who is sending me on links to pass away some time: Clickty[^]. Its not very difficult to figure out how this works but it is quite clever in how it is presented.

I've always wondered how these things work.

"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." - Rick Cook "There is no wealth like knowledge, no poverty like ignorance." Ali ibn Abi Talib "Animadvertistine, ubicumque stes, fumum recta in faciem ferri?"

This one has seen some mileage, I say this about 7 years ago and figured it out within 10 minutes.

The answer is always a multiple of nine. They all have the same symbol.

Those are easy. I was making my own varients when I was 10, before I'd learned any of the formalisms of algebra.

Otherwise [Microsoft is] toast in the long term no matter how much money they've got. They would be already if the Linux community didn't have it's head so firmly up it's own command line buffer that it looks like taking 15 years to find the desktop. -- Matthew Faithfull

Nein - it is always a multiple of nine. I hope my pun wasn't lost on the non German speakers

"Choose any two-digit number, add together both digits, and then subtract the total from your original number" Your original number has digits x and y The number can be written as 10x+y Subtract x+y from that, you get 9x Therefore your answer is always a multiple of 9. If you look at the symbols on the page, all the symbols next to 9, 18, ... 81 are the same (9x9 = 81 is the highest answer you can end up with).

Hahaha that's awesome! I was actually stunned the first couple times until I realized the symbols were changing. ;) I should pass that on to my mom. :)
