Technically neither of those are illegal either. (sharing mp3s isn't a problem if the music isn't copyrighted, and the legality of the DMCA is somewhat dubious) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

wait just a minute. is sharing a mp3 an act of terrorism. NO Hacking the dvd-encryption for watching on a linux-box. NO Maybee illegal but not terrorism. Record companies live on the open market and if they cant adjust their buissnies model to the new reality of today then they are bound to go under. I rather bye my music direct from the artist and promote his/her work than from some shady record company whos pure interest are to make as much money out of me and the artist as possible. /Stefan

I was being sarcastic. I agree about record companies. I also don't have much respect for artists who call their music their 'product'. It makes me think of infomercials and plastic hair. In the UK, reverse engineering for your own private use is perfectly legal (though you can't use that knowledge to then go on and distribute modified / derivative works) In other words, if a company distributes demo software that can be simply hacked into the full version, then that's not breaking any laws. Of course distributing the said hack, or telling other people how to do it would be illegal. -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Although they [the US government] is in a no win situation trying to directly prevent further terrorist acts against US interests, this shows exactly how far out of touch with reality our politicians really are.

Doesn't it also open the door to false denunciations, or even blackmail ? ("You don't want to be considered as a terrorist ? I've been toying with the idea of getting one of those Easy Rider rifle racks for my truck. While the image of my AK-47 hanging there in the back window is esthetically pleasing (and very likely to deter tailgaters), I'm worried about the possibility of theft when I actually park the truck. I wonder if keeping a 50 lb sack of Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer in the bed of the pickup would repel thieves? "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Recursion." "Recursion who?" "Knock, knock..."
