I got my new laptop with Win 7 in it, and Visual studio hangs for ever (cpu shooting to 50%)... I am able to fire up VS, but the moment i ask it to create a new Project, it hangs, and i will have to kill it from task manager :-( Has anybody else experienced this. I have not installed any 3-rd part tools or add-ins. It has VS SP 1 installed. Has MS really tested it. If i can reproduce it easily on demand, there must be some bug in VS 2008 somewhere. I am sure i cannot be alone on this.

I have a variety of machines (old and new) and all now have Weven (64 or 32) and either VS2008 or VS2008/VS2010 plus a varety of tools and add-ons and I cannot report a single issue arising from any of my machines (either home or work) in relation to VS or SQL: server (2005/2008) or any applications, for that matter. I would suggest that the issue may be specific to your setup so it might be worth while repairing or remove/reinstall VS and see what happens prior to loading any service packs.

I'm running Weven with VS2008 and 2010 with no problems - it must be specific to either your hardware (unlikely), your Weven install or VS2008 install. I'd uninstall then reinstall VS2008, or repair the install first.

I second that. I have also Win7 with VS2008 installed and have not seen any single issue.

It may be hanging if the start page is having difficulty accessing the net? although i haven't seen this. Sorry, should have read post more cleqarly. Maybe the project type template is corrupt? The only problem i have found so far (in vb project) was when i had a textbox (on a TabPage) bound to a application setting, i accidently set the UseSystemPasswordCharachter or whatever it is to True, it went a bit do lally, lots of flickering, until i set it to false again. It doesn't happen with a textbox directly on the form.

Based on absolutely no evidence? Actually, I suspect you may very well be alone. I've been running Weven + VS2008 for over 2 months with absolutely no issues. Maybe you should try a clean re-install.

Works roughly ok (I am doing mostly C++ right now, though). The incremental linker bug is back, a new projects won't compile two .idl's, and for one imported project the tlb's created are invalid. ut hey, soon we'll have VS2010 that will fix all these issues, right? I mean, RIGHT? :suss:

We've run into some issues with add-ons, but not VS 2008 proper.

Installed VS 2008 Pro SP1 on Weven 64-bit. No issues so far (knock on plastic :-\). Flynn
