Stick a fresh fish in your pocket. If conversation gets difficult, whip it (the fish) out as a magic trick. Works for me all the time.

And her reply would be: "So long, and thanks for all the fish!"

Digital's advice is probably the best in this thread so far. Do NOT turn up with gifts - the signal you're giving is that you're not good enough on your own so you need to buy her time and affection. Not a good thing. Also realise that she's probably at least as nervous as you - it's your job to set her at ease by being a man and leading the way. That means that you've got to act comfortable and relaxed. Don't push into her personal space - lean back. This will make you appear less needy and more confident. Try not to fidget and don't feel like you've got to fill every second of time with conversation. The big one - first dates aren't about you. This is an opportunity for her to talk about herself (which most women love to do!) Ask about her interests, family, friends, experiences. Don't talk over her and try not to interrupt or be rude like that. Try and pick up on things she says and ask questions about that. Dinner for two is fine on a first date (though not what I'd do personally). See if you can meet her for a drink in a nice bar first so you can say hello and have a chat for a few minutes. Don't drink too much - you'll want to keep an eye on this, especially if you're nervous. Above all, try and enjoy yourself - if you can have fun, this will rub off on her and she'll have fun too and that's got to work out better. Remember, attraction isn't a choice - it's something you can create!

 Reminds me of a scene in Pulp Fiction about uncomfortable silences.

dinner date? no spaghetti. or anything with red sauce hopefully. unless you are adept at noodling.  (the art of eating noodles without slurping or looking like me) cocktail? perfect. coffee? Never for a first date. coffee makes people agitated and raises alertness. as opposed to a nice glass of red wine which helps...lubricate the rough spots :P

My advice is be yourself (if she doesn't like the real you it won't last anyway) and don't drink too much (too drunk is not attractive and you tend to lose your judgement). Have fun!

I've lost many things when I'm drunk, but I've never heard it called by that name before. :)

That is the some good advice.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it. My latest tip/trick Visit the Hindi forum here.

Stop farting on the first date and you may get a chance to find the right one.

Indeed it does, that is why you have managed to get your Missus to stick around as long as you have. Unfortunately I don't have a clue who this bloke is, so he won't be as lucky as you were, when impressing your Missus.

Michael Martin Australia "I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". The moment they heard this all the smiling face turned into a sad looking face and one of them farted. So I had to leave the place as soon as possible." - Mr.Prakash One Fine Saturday. 24/04/2004
