Is Oracle killing MySQL?
-
Oracle seems to be having be on a killing spree after acquiring Sun (and hence MySQL which was acquired by Sun). The latest two versions of MySQL for Windows have serious issues in Setup Configuration Wizard. 1) It can not seamlessly cleanup the older uninstallation files and/or overwrite it gracefully. (At least can't it display a graceful message?) 2) It throws an error like 'authentication_string' can not have a default value. And this seems to be a newer bug introduced by Oracle-MySQL team (http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=59038[^])

The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep!I fail to see why Oracle would want to keep MySQL alive.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep!Yes, you can use it for commercial purpose, the only restriction is the database size < 10 GB. and if you have bigger database then you are not looking for free database anyways. :)

The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep! The original authors of MySQL are striking back with a new product - MariaDB. That said, I have yet to look at it, but it claimns to recapture the spirit of MySQL
