              No. Too slow. In fact, PHP was too slow as well. They had to rewrite PHP to get it to perform.

                          Yes, every web site could be developed in PHP or ASP.NET. In the end they all send HTML to the client's browser, and possibly some scripting code such as JavaScript. If the pages are static, all you need is to edit some HTML; if the page content varies (as with Facebook, CodeProject, ...) your server needs a database, so you need to create a server-side program, PHP and ASP.NET are two popular ways for doing that. :)
