A Spanish mother has taken revenge on the man who raped her 13-year-old daughter at knifepoint by dousing him in petrol and setting him alight. He died of his injuries in hospital on Friday. Antonio Cosme Velasco Soriano, 69, had been sent to jail for nine years in 1998, but was let out on a three-day pass and returned to his home town of Benejúzar, 30 miles south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca. While there, he passed his victim’s mother in the street and allegedly taunted her about the attack. He is said to have called out “How’s your daughter?”, before heading into a crowded bar. Shortly after, the woman walked into the bar, poured a bottle of petrol over Soriano and lit a match. She watched as the flames engulfed him, before walking out.[^] Hope they give her a medal.

I'll pay for the petrol. The reason? How many other rapes did she prevent?

Exactly. However, it is not your responsibility to dish out justice therefore you are wrong and always will be wrong in thinking so and acting so. One of the greatest crimes against humanity IMHO.

Hope she goes to prison for the rest of her life. She murdered a man in cold blood in one of the most horrible ways imaginable.

You can get prison sentences here as well depending on the nature of your "self-defense". If you had a magazine in your pistol and their was a bullet in the chamber, then you can be tried for pre-meditated murder here in the States in certain situations. If they can prove in a court of law that you used "excessive" force in stopping a would be assailant then you can be arrested and tried for aggravated assault and/or murder.

Even if she understood and accepted the price she would pay? The decision not to act is a decision in itself. Was this right? No. Was it the lesser wrong? That is the difficult one since it is clear the original from the rapist's attitude attack wasn't a one off.

Had it been my daughter, I would have been much more imaginative. Certainly he would be begging for death at the end. I am no doctor, but I would have kept him alive for weeks. Slowly hacking bits off him, shredding the skin from his body, making him eat and swallow his own testicles, then making him eat the shit of his own testicles. Finally, at the end I would offer him a choice. Beg for death or I would blind, deafen and quadriplegise him.

All the more reason to not leave them hurt. Castle doctrine FTW.

There is one positive thing from this thread - instead of an argument we had a reasonable discussion. Even if we had fundamentally disagreed I am pleased to say I would have respected your opinion in this matter. Scary innit?

A completely different case - partly because he had repeatedly threatened to shoot any police officer who walked up the path to his house. For this reason alone he should not have had a shotgun. Also, he shot the burglar as the burglar was leaving so the threat was no longer there and had refused to report any crimes to the police so the police couldn't do anything.

I didn't say it was not murder. I said that I don't think that it was "cold blooded" murder; I personally think their is a big difference between the two. Cold-blooded murder, to me, is when a person murder's someone for no reason. I think she had a good enough reason and if I was the judge I may have given her 6 month's probation and a medal of honor.

And if you did, I would be happy to hear that you ended up behind bars for the rest of your life.

I could be wrong here, I usually am, but I'm going to guess that you don't have any children of your own.

Not really the dictionary definition("without emotion or feeling; dispassionate; cruel"), but then I didn't really use it very well either. It wasn't emotionless, but it was cruel.

Never a good reason for murder. Understandable, but not justifiable. Absolutely nothing honorable about burning someone to death.

Murder is still murder, reagardless of how many children I have.
