I've used Eclipse, I did a lot of Java dev, but found it as much fun us Luton. For Java I prefer Netbeans, still not as polished as VS, but better than, and crucially not, Eclipse.

I have to disagree, I find it as bad as Slough but not as worse as Swindon..

Eclipse constantly is in the wrong show, wailing about errors which don't exist or overlooking existing errors and pretending everything is well. That thing never quite knows what's going on. Instead of informing me, it takes occupies my time by constantly having to perform updating/compiling rituals until Eclipse at least temporarily has a clue again. Eclipse is a waste of time and productivity and I would not recommend it to edit a simple batch file, much less some larger project. But my bosses are hellbent on using Java and Eclipse for everything, so I just play along. In the end it's their money they are wasting. But the progress I make on my own projects over a weekend is overwelming when compared to fumbling around with Eclipse all week long.

Which leads us to one question: What are you using for Java? I'm thinking about playing around with Java (after some crucial tests in october; those come first), and I've been told that one should use Eclipse (especially if you want to develop something for android). But I thought that - just maybe - I could use my good old friend, vim. The only thing I'm missing is something like "IntelliSense", that's really a cool feature.

That seems to be a PEBKAC problem, Sir. Why don't you go and fetch a coffee while I handle the operation?
