    Looking at a set up of a data feed. There are two options available that I shall now illistrate through the medium of ASCII boxes: Option :-D :

    +-------------+ +-------------+
    | Source |---->| Destination |
    +-------------+ +-------------+

    Option :( :

    +-------------+ +-------------+ +-------------+ +-------------+
    | Source |---->| Bloat Box |---->| Slow Router |---->| Destination |
    +-------------+ +-------------+ +-------------+ +-------------+

    Go on, I dare you all: which option does the client think is best? :doh:

      Not far off it. I think the slow router takes the messages out to lunch first before forwarding anything.

                  This is data we need to get into the App quickly; it is so stupid. We're trying to make them see sense, the cost to them is actually the same which ever way we go, but with the direct feed, they need to take in another line from the supplier, with the FUBAR version we'll have to upgrade links between data centres.

                      The big issue is the redundancy / disaster recovery. With the fucked-up solution they need to have upgraded lines between every frakin point on the network to ensure the data gets through. with the direct approach we can simply put in two cross connects - one at each site - and the supplier deals with the rest. Simples. The client doesn't pay anymore for having the data fed into two places, so it seems to me a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the PM on their side has no brain.

                        Their software. ;) It takes in each message and decides which router to send it to. The router software can actually do everything their f'uped bloatware does; only it's faster. I love having to keep 83 conflicting egos on the up at the same time. :-D

                                    For the umptenth time I wish Den makalösa manicken[^] was available in english. It's about a professor that has created a somewhat overly complicated eternity engine - and the lyrics is oddly appropriate with regards to the endless number of transformations data goes through on it's way from a to b to c to d to e ... to z in this modern day and age.

                                          Their software. ;) It takes in each message and decides which router to send it to. The router software can actually do everything their f'uped bloatware does; only it's faster. I love having to keep 83 conflicting egos on the up at the same time. :-D

                                          As a person who prefers his own code to that of others' more concise, better behaved, and technically superior software, I have to side with the client on this. Besides, I have a soft spot in my brain for redundant processes. I think it may be a tumor.
