Depends on which country you are in, I suppose. Here in the Philippines, most websites are created in PHP because; a) There are plenty of PHP developers here and, b)the price of hosting PHP sites here are relatively cheaper, than that of ASP.Net.
Signature construction in progress. Sorry for the inconvenience.
the future of php is not being extinct because .php files are used for authentication,Etc. and without php what would take its place.

Could you share your opinions on the future of PHP here? I want to learn the languages which should have a 'shiny' future. I think PHP is becoming extinct, the proof is all the web sites I have visited seem to be written using ASP.NET (even ASP are rarely seen), ASP.NET is more dominant, isn't it? Thank you very much!
Consider hosting plans... Most I've seen offer php and mysql for free; they charge extra for ASP.Net and SQL Server. Which do you think will be more attractive to developers in countries where money is scarce, or the local currency is not highly regarded by the world banks? As an additional clue - they outnumber us by quite a margin. No, php isn't going away. The .Net world might, as soon as Microsoft decides that it has sucked all the money it can out of the pockets of developers and decides to create a new standard. That should be about ten minutes after Windows 8 is released. :-D

PHP is here to stay IMO and if you want to be a WebDev then it's a must to be familiar with it even if your primary language of choice is ASP.Net or any of the others.

The content management stuff like Drupal and Joomba are written in php, so that must mean something.
