Could you please review some questions of mine on PHP posted in codeproject, There are few comments and answers to them, I'm very new to PHP and I think my questions are clear and need some short answer, but they instead of answering directly the questions for me, suggested me to read some manual..., reading a manual (which is normally huge) and finding out something to help oneself is not an easy job to newbies like me. Thank you for your reply!

If you are getting this kind of answer typically you are making too general questions or you are not giving enough details and this makes people here to think that you've not tested anything and that you want us to make your job... Some times this is not right, but it happens often so this is a quite normal reaction... where do you have the questions?

The problem is that quite often the question shows that the setter does not have enough background to continue, and the best thing they can do is to - yes - sit down and read a book. I know it seems cruel, but in reality "picking it up as you go along" is a very bad way to learn anything complex: you miss so much important stuff and do not have the background to understand how things should be. I haven't looked at any of your PHP questions - I took a quick look at PHP a few years ago and decided I didn't like it - but there is a good chance that the "read a book" answer is actually the best you can get. Sorry if that seems unhelpful, but just giving someone the solution is not always the best way to answer!

I can see that the codeproject is not the good place to discuss PHP, although to me the codeproject is the best one to discuss all about .NET stuff and Microsoft Technologies. Could you please suggest me some good forums to discuss only PHP? Thank you!

I have seen a number of questions on PHP on this site. I've answered a few as well - though I admit, some of them were simply giving the poster links to other sites.

I'm sorry I don't think so, my questions were really clear and I'm sure the answers to them are quite short, such as 'No/Yes you need to ...to use such functions' or 'No, you can't do such things in php'... Please review my PHP questions (just recently posted so they are easily to find). Thank you!

I have to agree that some of my PHP questions showed my lack of php background, but the others focused on some very concrete problems which I think can't be found in any PHP manual. Please review them first, there are 4 at all. Moreover, I also have a kind of PHP manual, it only supplies me some reference about language, functions... the most disappointment about it is it doesn't guide me sufficiently enough, for example, it talks about Microsoft SQL Server function but doesn't state clearly that I have to remove the semicolon before 'extension=php_mssql.dll' in php.ini, the same to many other function groups, the problem is that I'm unable to know which extension components need to be used for a group of functions. I have searched to get more info but there weren't many helpful, such as with the key words "How to use direct io functions in php", "call to undefined function...", my background is "I need some component installed" and my lack is "what are they? How to make them work?", not easy for any newbie and as I mentioned, such info seems not to be found in both online and offline php manuals. You may not understand who newbies are. Thank you!

OK, but it is not a good way to get help not even to post links to your questions... I've tried to find them without luck... they don't seem to be in the recent "quick answers" neither to be in the "web development forum"... To desire to help don't means that I'm willing to search for the questions.

In addition to seconding OriginalGriff's suggestion you get a good introductory book, and work through the examples, step-by-step ... I find it hard to believe that with less than ten minutes of using Google, or Bing, you cannot find a wealth of on-line forums, devoted to PhP, a wealth of on-line tutorials, and even the equivalent of books, on-line. If CP doesn't turn out to be a good place to get your PhP questions answered ... and I have no idea if that's true or not, because: I have never touched PhP ... then look elsewhere. There are millions of people using PhP: there are forums, I am sure, that welcome newcomers, and their questions. Have you looked at StackOverFlow: currently "MySQL" showing 33668 threads, "php5" showing 7,020 threads. My Google search on "php forums" filtered by "only within the last week:" shows 9,220 results. Time for you to bear down, get self-motivated, and do your homework ? good luck, Bill

FYI... If you look at the recent quick answer questions by the OP, they are the most recent 4 (and they are tagged as PHP).

PHP is insanely well documented. If you google php questions, there is nearly always an answer pointing to the online php manual. It is also very easy to search the php documentation.
