I would like to point out that the whole of the £10 million cost was entirely met from private contributions. The security costs were met from the public purse, but I have been advised that the exercise was used a 'dry-run' for security at the Olympics later this summer.

What other head of state could stand in the open air, on a boat, on a river, travelling very slowly, through one of the worlds biggest cities, surrounded by millions of people, enclosed by many tall buildings and not look a tad worried?
