Today is my first day back at work as me. Everybody's been great and I feel totally at ease (though I was pretty nervous when I arrived!). "Andy" is well and truly gone now. :) As you can imagine, Christmas was pretty strange this year (I transitioned on Christmas Day) and being offline with no phone or internet connection I had to be rather creative to keep myself busy. After getting bored earlier this week I managed to put my coding head on for a while, as a result of which I've got a new version of ResOrg[^] in the pipeline, with support for (at last!) multi-file conflict analysis. There's still a lot to do before I dare let it out the door, but so far it looks like a very useful update on the last version (1.4.2). Watch this space... Anna :rose: My cable modem and phone are being installed on Wednesday, so here's to broadband! www.annasplace.me.uk

The only reason I ask is that my wife has a liberal friend who is a self proclaimed "Tolerant person". This woman has been know to say all types of cruel and intolerant things to myself and others and then say, "Only joking" when someone takes offense. I reckon it's probably all about intention. If the woman you mention, honestly means it when she says "only joking" then I guess that's OK, though hopefully, she would then modify her behaviour. If she's not sincere, then in my opinion, it's unacceptable. I just have no time for spiteful people and I really don't understand why they have to be that way. I'm also at a loss why people argue like they do. If you enter an argument, you should be aware of what it is you're trying to achieve. For example, in an argument with my wife, I could know I was in the right and argue forever until she gives in but if I know she will be humiliated if I prove her wrong, then there's no justification. Arguments with family members are the same - you can argue your point until you're blue in the face if you know you're right, but what will the result be? Will you end up not talking to that family member? Will there always be a rift between you as a result? This is my argument against people who say what the hell they want with the excuse that they are entitled to their opinion and anyone who suffers as a consequence deserves to. The World would be a better (and just nicer) place if it wasn't for people like this. "The folly of man is that he dreams of what he can never achieve rather than dream of what he can."

Bah, ignore John, he just doesn't seem able to grasp the concept that someone can be so different to the norm and just how important it is not to suppress who you are (I am all too familiar with the emotional problems and shame that breeds). John, if you do read this, it takes more guts to admit something like this to yourself that I think you've ever had in you, let alone take the extraordinarily hard step to approach those you love and care about with it. If you think you've experienced insecurities, unadulterated fear and a kind of melancholy hopelessness that even Wordsworth couldn't put onto paper, then trust me mate – you haven't even sighted the iceberg, let alone scraped it. And those people who don't care about Anna don't matter – life doesn't work like that; never has and never will do. In your own choice phrases: I doubt Anna could give a shit what you think of her. Now that's over with, welcome back Anna! I hope this year will be a good one - well done! :rose: I'm looking forward to that new version of ResOrg – it's one of the few adding for VS that I actually use. :)

I don't agree with what Anna has done with his life, but its his life. I'd rather not hear about it like John, but I think he has just as much of a right to post (in the soapbox) as anyone else. John does say what he feels, but that can get you into trouble. Sometimes its better to be quiet than to be [EDIT]vocal[/EDIT] about your feelings.

John, Guess what? I don't care what you think. You're bigotry is your problem, not mine. You leave me to live my life and I'll leave you to live yours, OK? I may have been born looking like a guy, but that doesn't mean I have to spend the rest of my life pretending to be one. One more thing. As far as how I look is concerned, I'm quite happy with my appearance and figure, and so it seems are most others...I've been receiving emails at work today congratulating me on how good I look, and I don't get a second glance when I go out in public. This is getting into a real mud wrestling match. ;P I will admit he could very easily have been in The Village People, but you shouldn't go round calling people gay or lesbian purely because of how they look or act - that creates bad stereotypes and gives John something to laugh about.

A close friend of the family (husband of my mum's closest friend) has recently come out, and I'm finding some of the bigotted reactions of people around me very surprising (and tbh I found the entire concept a bit unreal myself, to start out) I'm glad you're comfortable at work, as he (hmm, still feels strange thinking of someone I've known all my life as a him, as a her) lectures in a university, so I imagine there could be some incredibly hurtful comments from the students. I know I was hugely reluctant to see the photos, but she does look fantastic, and more importantly, looks happy which is the most important thing, imo Oh yeah, I notice you like to Jennifer Diane Reitz's site - are you hooked on unicornjelly.com[^] too? -- Help me! It will be difficult, because I think of you as still being male but hiding it. I would be lying and I really can't do that. I will do my best to avoid the situation. I hope you can understand.

Yet earlier you said "Sometimes its better to be quiet than to be honest about your feelings.", so while not a direct hypocrisy I think it is bordering on one. Also as I am no doubt you are aware I don't believe in idly sitting by when I disagree with something. I do try and be constructively critical though.
