That's a shyte thing to happen. I'd say welcome to my world but it's kind of crowded and I don't think you'll hear me bleating among the rest of the crowd. True, my last job went well until the hard cash-strapped reality of working for a small firm bit me for the third time in as many years! :) All the best, mate. Edit: Don't you guys in the US get redundancy pay? Here in the UK, if you work for a firm for more than two years you get a week's pay for each year over two years. Good firms factor in a multiplier like the one did that I worked at for nine years. The first £30K was tax free. I enjoyed nine months off until Mrs. W started getting a bit rat-arsed about me being at home and she was out bringing in the bacon. :-D

I've been laid off twice, both times with a two year gap in employment of any kind. Overall, I went 13 years without a "real" job, living hand to mouth without access to any sort of benefits. The signs are pointing subtly to the possibility of it happening again in the next year or so. It's unspeakably hard - financially and emotionally - but it's survivable, and you can recover. Good luck!

Congratulations... Last time I got laid off (after 5 years) I got no severance... But I did land a much better job in about 2 weeks (salary, benefits, work conditions).

When that happened to me, I embraced it. Used the money to partly fund a return to uni and qualified as a teacher. 'course I can't get a flamin' job as a teacher, now...

hey sorry hear that. I don't think financial industry is going to heal anytime soon though (especiailly hiring). Suggest you just get *any* job to cut down on burn rate for time being, and consider yet more education during this period (if you think you be working for somebody eventually that you're not going to run your own gig for the long hual) Good luck buddy

Getting laid off always sucks. I can only say from my own experience that being bitter about it doesn't help. I hope you find a new job soon. In the meantime see if you can find a voluntary job, if not for the selfsatisfaction, it looks good in the CV. Being without work for to long isn't good for your psyche. I'm a born couch potato that would degrade completely if I didn't have a job I needed to go to.

YES,when I got laid off I loved the jokes my friends told me becasue they had all been through the same thing at one point in their career. You need to laugh, forget and learn new things. It is totally appropriate and its obvious you need some mind bleach at this point.
