I would say though that Germany is definitely one of the top contenders for the title. Largely because of history. After the war the constitution and the political system was purpose built to avoid a repetition of history. And it works too. Just go to Brussels (or Washington) and mention the Bundesverfassungsgericht and you will see a lot of people that will spit and swear a lot.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I live here in Germany and I'm glad to live hear. In almost all cases you are free, but there are some cases where free speech isn't allowed because is has something todo with religion, other nations, emancipation.

In this field I'm very interested and I think there is freedom.

Well at least according to this[^] article it isn't. So my question is: Which country IS the land of the free nowadays? If any. :sigh:

When has it ever been? You guys are being governed by installing fear in to mainstream society. Hence the government can make as many draconian laws as they want. Be afraid be very afraid there is a terrorist hiding behind every bush, corner or wherever else that is not in you line of sight. What leaves me gobsmacked in the US public swallows this line hook line and sinker.

France. You can truly live your life without interfeerence, without being watched, and in a society that says 'live and let live' have as much fun as you want and no one tries to tell you not to. For example a local river, with some damms, has a big no swimming sign up. Its totaly ignored, there are hundreds of people all over the place, on the small beaches formed, swimming, jumping out of trees, cannoing, and so on. No one cares at all. The French own their country. It is divided into communes, with communal forests each administered by the mayoral office, or commune. There is no road tax. Speed limits are almost optional, little traffic and open roads.

If a country has a government, they aren't free. The only "free" places I can think of is either Antarctica, or an ocean where you have not crossed a country's international boundary.
