Yeah. People should get the job because they, well, deserve it, not because of the color of skin. But, if you've got two people of more-or-less equal talent, I don't see any problem giving a leg-up to someone of a group who've been discriminated against...

That's reverse discrimination. The ability to get a job should not rest on the color of someone's skin, or perceived wrongs impressed upon that person by imagined oppressors. In short, what you said is a crock of sh|t.

Positive discrimination, by definition, is still discrimination!!

That's true. But since we all discriminate every day, it doesn't mean much.

maybe, and I see your point, but we all have the right to discriminate and where all things are otherwise equal, then trying to make up for past mistakes by trying to help can't be all bad.

Which costs less? a. Getting new stories written. b. Rehashing the same few stories again and again.

I would imagine they cost about the same and I think two very different stories could probably take very different means to tell and therefore the cost would be very different. So, it's not a very good way to compare.

Looks ok. I liked the two other FF movies, so I'm definitely going to see this one. The only thing that irritates the shit out me every time they decide to "re-heat" a superhero is that we have to see FOR THE ELEVENTY-SEVENTH time how Peter Parker became Spiderman and how Bruce Wayne became Batman etc. Why can't they just move on, assuming that we have already seen one of the zillion movies about that before? For oldtimers like us that can be irritating, but they're also going after new audiences, too. But, maybe they could do it with short, relevant flashbacks... "I feel your pain" ;P

Probably you're right that it's a crock of shiite. But the oppression that black people have suffered (and to some degree still suffer) is hardly imaginary. Granted, what I've described something I wouldn't do necessarily. But when given the choice between two equally talented people, one white, one minority and they both fit the part equally, then I guess it comes down to who you like better, I suppose, on a personal level. It becomes more personal I guess...

Not at all. The most expensive thing in ents is creativity, because of the dearth of it. If you want a new story in Hollywood, you have to pay for it, a lot, and usually several times (because the mentioned dearth of creativity does not map to a dearth of people who claim to be creative), whereas a remake, you can pretty much do yourself without hiring any writers -- a few silly tweaks, and it looks creative, even though it's really not.
