em is preferred since HTML 4.01. ≪I> has been there since before CSS. All tags are suggestions to the renderer and as such the suggestion is EMphasis. ≪b> should be replaced with strong also.

<i>tag is actually more appropriate here, since it is still the element to be used for typographically italicized text i.e. text that is just in italic without any semantics to it whatsoever.<em>is meant to be used for emphasis/stressing.szukuro wrote:
