That is just a myth. If you look at the time when IE, Excel and Word took over, they where all getting better reviews than the other packages. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

If you think that is true, go and use WordPerfect or Lotus 123 for awhile. Oh, and use Paradox for your database. Delphi is a good product, you can write code in that. Oh, and in case you are thinking that MS rolled over OS/2 with marketing hype, then think about this... OS/2 had a bug that made it crash requiring a hard disk formatting and reinstallation (according to John Dvorak). How's that for a bug? You can do everything a normal computer user does without using any MS products (word processing, spreadsheet, email, contact management, database). Have fun!

That is just a myth. If you look at the time when IE, Excel and Word took over, they where all getting better reviews than the other packages. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

CP is is Up I can reply now! It's called marketing when you say to a magazine, "we want to advertise our new product in your magazine, our budget is 1,000,000 USD for the 1st month, and 500,000 for the next 11 months. Oh by the way would you mind reviewing it as well?" I used to work in the newspaper industry, a very good, obvious, example of this is in your free newspapers have a look at the articles and check if the compnay mentioned in the article has any adverts in the paper and how big are they wrt to the article? I don't want to criticise Excel, etc. just pointing out marketing strategies. :suss:

If you think that is true, go and use WordPerfect or Lotus 123 for awhile. Oh, and use Paradox for your database. Delphi is a good product, you can write code in that. Oh, and in case you are thinking that MS rolled over OS/2 with marketing hype, then think about this... OS/2 had a bug that made it crash requiring a hard disk formatting and reinstallation (according to John Dvorak). How's that for a bug? You can do everything a normal computer user does without using any MS products (word processing, spreadsheet, email, contact management, database). Have fun!

I use Opera for surfing unless the site is non standard and OpenOffice. I was around when Worperfect, Lotus and dBase ruled. As we all know it is far easier to copy than to innovate, Microsoft's early attempts were bad, ever tried Windows 1.0? If you then give your products away "free" with each PC you get a user base, over the years you issue updates, for a fee of course, and eventually you can kill the opposition. But the opposition can and does aid this process a classic example was the British Motorbike industry. Also there was a saying in the early days "a release of MSDOS is not finished unless Lotus 123 crashes" which may or my not be true. Also which version of Windows would you say is totally secure and stable and how long has it taken to achieve this?

I strongly disagree. Wordperfect and Lotus ruled some time ago, but they couldn't catch up with Microsoft. Microsoft did not copy. Instead, those companies were so slow to copy MSs innovations! About Linux vs Windows: Well, this is a completely stupid discussion. Everybody have a taste. Personally, I never liked Linux. I use Linux for most of the time, however I still hate it. My Windows XP Prof. crashed only once for the last 2 months. However, my freaking Redhat Linux 9 crashes at least twice everyday. Also, it has been more than 1.5 years since I reinstalled Windows. Isn't this a quite good performance? I don't think that there are important security issues in WinXP. Even if there are some, I am using Norton Internet Security and I really dont care about the rest. Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com
