Bye, Bye Canada - Part II
-
Hi all This is a really bad weekend for me and my wife. We applied for immigration to Canada last year. The Visa office in Berlin wrote that I have to take an English test to proof my English proficiency. Yesterday the results arrived and my English isn't good enough to get the full immigration points (my overall band score is 6.5 of 9). Now we won't qualify for the immigration unless I will find an employer who is willing to give me an arranged employment by September, 24 - what is nearly impossible. I leave nothing undone so maybe you know a company who is looking for a C# developer. Here is copy of my resume http://www.canadian-net.de/stephan_resume.doc[^] and a translated version of the reference letter from my current employer http://www.canadian-net.de/EN_References_Wachter.doc[^].

Have you tried telling them you're French? From what I can tell, if you claim to be Acadian, you don't need to speak English. "You say your computer won't turn on? Let's see ... [flip flip flip]. Have you run ScanDisk?" - Tech Support

 I assumed you were leaving Canada, thus had experience with (some) people here. :sigh: "You say your computer won't turn on? Let's see ... [flip flip flip]. Have you run ScanDisk?" - Tech Support

You can bump up the score by adding your wife's education qualifications. Have you looked into that? With the new points system, it's very TOUGH to get approval. :sigh: Either you need a family in Canada or approved job offer and high score on IELTS exam. Good luck.

This signature was created by "Code Project Quoter".Inclusive my wifes education and her aunt in Canada we get around 72 points (75 points are necessary). The problem is that we don't have a university degree. In Germany the education system is different and that is a big problem. Yes it is very tough to get approval. I wish we had applied before they changed the system.:((

Difficult to tell them that I am French when I don't speak French:(
It may not be needed. You should try applying to Quebec first. I understand they control their own immigration - unlike the rest of Canada where immigration is controlled by the federal governement. I 'm suprised they gave you a 6.5 on English - judging by your post you seem to have very good command of the language. And I know of tons of people who immigrated to Canada that can hardly speak English, let alone write. 60% of statistics are made up on the spot

Here is the list of provinces who support Provincial Nominee Program: Provincial Nominee Program Contact Information[^] The only point related to Quebec comes only when you choose any place in Quebec province as your land of entry. Say if you choose Montreal, Quebec as land of entry then you can't land in Toronto, Ontario.

This signature was created by "Code Project Quoter".We applied on Aug, 5 2003. In 2000 I had a job offer from a company (not an arranged employment), but they mostly used VB 6 and VBA and they didn't want to change to .NET so I deceided to refuse the offer - I am such an idiot!

Maybe Manitoba or Nova Scotia is a good idea, but I need a job offer and that's really hard to get. I sent around 100 job applicatons and I am also willing to come for an interview to Canada at my own expense, but in the most cases I got no response. I read lots of English books and articles (the most of them are computer literature). Maybe I had a bad day or all the other people lie to me :(
