I liked the idea but didn't use them very often because they didn't stand out when collapsed. After changing the “Collapsed Text” to orange in the options I use them a lot. Tools/Options/Environment/Fonts and Colors/Collapsed Text/Item foreground

  • asp.net or WPF (not design or code question but general opinion)
    8 8xFather

We have several clients running our WPF/C# applications on Terminal Server and Citrix without any issues. I wouldn’t hesitate to use WPF because of Terminal Server. You just need to remember that everyone is sharing the same resources. Make sure you dispose of objects correctly and don’t hold on to large chunks of data being lazy. We also use DataReaders almost exclusively. If you have 30 people all loading giant data tables on the same machine at the same time it can chew up resources in a hurry.

  • A discussion on life (Scientific, not philosophical)
    8 8xFather

Religious view If God created life here then he can do it wherever he pleases. Whether we discover it or not is up to him. Scientific view How many times have scientists proved themselves wrong? The big danger in science is that too many believe they are smarter than they actually are. Too often opinions are passed off as facts and things that aren’t understood are dismissed as not possible. If science was a simple true or false world then we wouldn’t have so many scientists disagreeing with each other. I subscribe to the religious view.

  • How do I setup a Linked Server in SQL to an ODBC connection pointed to a secure Access DB?
    8 8xFather

How do you link a SQL Server through an ODBC connection to an Access DB that has the User Security turned on? The ODBC connection contains the user name and password. When I test the connection in C# I don't have any problems but my client can't get their SQL Server to work. This is the error they sent me. OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "testDB" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "testDB" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "testDB" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "testDB".

  • Anyone still use the Classic appearance? [modified]
    8 8xFather

I run classic on Vista Ultimate using a quad core, 4 gigs ram, 1 gig video card and dual monitors. It's just easier for me to find what I want. All the fluff just gets in my way, doesn't get used and slows me down. That's why I still think Win 2K was the best business OS. I also have 6 XP Pro machines running classic.
