Considering a career change. Any suggestions? When I was in school the software engineering class was a practical lesson in designing software. The teacher made me the project lead and I enjoyed it. When I went to college I had no idea what I would major in. My second quarter I wanted to take a computer class and all sections of the "general computing" class was full so I took an intro to computer science class. The next quarter I needed another class to get the required number of credits so I took a Programing 1 class. Before I knew it I had a major. I was a third of the way through the program before I even realized that I had chosen a major. And I was pretty good at it, not great but got decent grades so I stuck with it.

Considering a career change. Any suggestions?I actually wish that I could find an employer that would pay me to do this. That would completely rock.

Considering a career change. Any suggestions? Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it a bit deeper. Unfortunately this is not an option for my current employer and I left my last employer because they didn't have any positions for me other than what I was in. Truthfully I can't decide about leaving software completely. I have no idea what I would do.

Considering a career change. Any suggestions?I have been developing software for the last 10 years in C, C++, then C#, primarily windows forms applications. I have a 4 year degree in computer science. When I think back I realize that developing software is not a career I enjoy. Since I was a child I have enjoyed working with computers but I am not a techie. I do not know the latest trends in software or in hardware. When I read industry books they are usually about agile development practices or user interfaces. I do enjoy working directly with the users and designing software. I am just not quite techie enough to be able to tell you exactly how Framework 2.0 is different from 3.0 and I have no interest in learning it (although I know that I could if I applied myself). It is time for me to either get a new job or get new education. With the job market the way it is I am in a quandary. So to summarize. My question is... What is a good degree, skill set, or secondary career that I could get into that would utilize my programming background?

Internet optionsHi all, I live in the country and cannot get broadband internet. Currently we have Wildblue Satellite service but it will not support Skype or Remote desktop which are both required for my job. I want to be able to work from home more often but unless I can get better internet that won't happen. Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone know if the internet offered by cell phone companies will work for what I need? I live in rural eastern MN. Thanks

Help with form post methodI have been given a project where we are sending data from our website to a website that another company owns. They have asked us to use the "Form post" method of doing this. The screen that we are using will require us to send multiple sets of data to their site in some kind of a loop format. I have no experience in this and am hoping that someone here will be able to give me pointers to where I should start. Steps 1. User fills in fields on our website and clicks submit button. 2. We loop through the data the user entered and send the data to the website of another company. 3. We bring the user to a "Confirmation" page telling them that their information has been submitted and they will be contacted soon. We are using ASP.NET and VStudio 2008 Thanks.

Nine year anniversaryIf it works don't try to fix it. We just celebrated our 10 year anniversary. We are not married and don't plan to be. We are best friends. We are talking about kids but waiting until things are more financially sound (he just got a new degree and will be starting a new career this summer). Things are better than ever. I truthfully think that marriage would change our relationship to the point where we wouldn't like each other any more. There is a certain mindset that neither one of us is comfortable with. We are both very independent people and our relationship works because we live our independent lives together. We don't argue about money because we each contribute our share of the bills and have a joint savings account for things like fixing the house and vacations and the rest of our money is our own. On the other hand we spend almost all of our spare time together with the exception of the occasional visit to friends and family that we do alone. We appreciate each other more when we get back together after being away. My best advice is to be your own person. Don't try to live your partners life for them. Accept the other person for who they are and don't ask them to change. You can suggest changes but make sure they understand that you will love and respect them even if they don't change. Also, NEVER talk about your partner to other people unless you want them to hear what you said about them. If you wouldn't say it to them don't say it to others. It is disrespectful and if it is truly how you feel they should know about it.

Is it a bad thing... [modified]I am prepared for the flaming but I have a serious question to ask. I was reading this "[^]" article and according to the section #1 I would be considered a "Career programmer". I am pretty good at what I do and I love programming, love my job, enjoy doing new things, wouldn't want to do anything else with my career but I don't do any programming out side of work. I seldom even turn on a computer when I am not at work. I occasionally read books on agile software practices but I don't do any non-work programming, and never have. I love to learn, but I learn about anything under the sun that interests me that week, not necessarily technology. Going with those thoughts what kind of a career am I headed for?

Plagiarism Detection ???When I was in college my instructor gave us projects to do but our tests were worth more than our projects. All tests were paper tests where we were asked to write code. It had to be mistake free.

Online DegreesThanks for the info. This is exactly what I am looking for.

Online DegreesExactly!!
-
Online DegreesI enjoy learning and need to move my career forward. I am thinking that someday I may want to teach CS at a technical school or university and want to prepare for that. In reality some kind of certification program may suit my needs but I want to look into both options.

Online DegreesHappy Friday, My question for the day is: Are there any reputable online masters degree programs for computer science or software engineering?

How do I control the appearance of checkboxes? Thanks for the reply but it still doesn't answer my question. I have done a bunch of research on this issue and can't seem to be able to find the answer for, checkboxes specifically, any where.

How do I control the appearance of checkboxes?I wouldn't have asked the question if the answer was css. I know enough to read the basic books on HTML and there is no answer in any of them to my question. If you don't have a specific answer to my question please don't insult my intelligance with stupid answers.
