I'm sick of Safely Remove Hardware! -
Multimedia phone versus MP3 playerI've got a sony ericsson w810i and love it. The mp3 player is really nice to use, and, as a bonus, the phone is actually pretty decent too. The camera is a bit ho-hum, but then I generally use a DSLR, so I'm probably a bit more picky in that regard. The software that comes with it allows you to sync contacts from the windows address book too, up to 1000 I believe, either by bluetooth or the cable. SMS is pretty good, the nice touch that wins me over there is that it remembers the last few people you sent a message to and offers them to you first (of course, you can still pick someone from your contacts list or enter a new number) My main requirement was for a decent phone and mp3 player. Less than 100g (it's about 95g) and not a flip, slide or swing format (I've hung up on my girlfriend a few too may times with my old flip phone...)

get column namesThis is from something I wrote a while back for checking the structure of an Access table, it might be of some help to point you in the right direction:
Dim tblExport As DataTable Dim TableName as string = "tblTest" tblExport = TestConnection.GetOleDbSchemaTable(OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, New Object() {Nothing, Nothing, TableName, "TABLE"})

Stop Word date fields from auto updatingI'm writing an application that manipulates various office documents, but am having trouble with Fields containting dates that automatically update. All my efforts so far are too late in the process. As soon as I perform a wrd.Document.Open(filename), the fields have updated. Is there a way to open a word document and unlink, or lock, the fields before they update? Cheers, Anthony

DragDrop from application to Windows ExplorerI'm developing an application that has some document management functionality, with a folder structure displayed in a treeview. I can quite happily drag the treeview nodes around to re-order them, and drag folders and files into the tree from windows explorer. That bit was easy. I'd also like to be able to drag folders (treeview nodes) out of my application and drop them into an explorer window. I've tried searching for a solution, but only come up with dragging things into my treeview, not out. Can someone point me in the right direction? Cheers, Anthony.

SystemYou should be able to get a Core2Duo 6750 for a few dollars more than the 6550 (about $28AUD at my local shop).

I've been hacked!I think, for now at least. All they did was send a few dozen messages to other ebay members advertising their web store. http://shopele.com They were even good enough to include an email address (shopele@hotmail.com) And they don't even appear to be in Australia (where both I and my ebay account are): http://www.enom.com/domains/whois.asp?DomainName=shopele.com[^] I'm not quite sure what the best thing to do with all this information is. Any suggestions?

I've been hacked! But on a serious note, and this may sound a bit naieve of me, but how do they do that? I never follow links in emails, only type the address in, or use my bookmarks.

I've been hacked!Oh goodie. That'll teach me for turning off the phishing filter on IE7...

I've been hacked!I just got a reply email from eBay, and, in a round about kind of way, they confirmed that my registered email address was still the correct one (although, since they didn't have my work email on file, they couldn't go into too much detail, which is fair enough)

I've been hacked!I fired up my email this morning before I left for work (I can't access my personal account from the office), and was greeted with a number of emails from ebay members, and a final one from ebay telling me that someone had taken control of my account and started spamming other members  (so I apologise if anyone from here got one!) So now I have a new problem. After following the instructions on the email from ebay security, I was supposed to get another email with further instructions. I could only hang around for about 10 minutes, which I would have thought long enough for a system generated email to be delivered. But the email never came and I can no longer log into ebay, so I'm thinking they may have changed my account email address. The messages were only trying to get people to buy stuff, but still, I'm a bit worried how they managed to get my account, and what other info of mine they could get their hands on. So now I have to come up with new passwords, stronger ones this time, but still rememberable, and sort out this ebay debacle. Grumble... Anthony

Book recommendations? (no programming books please)I read The God Delusion on a recent holiday in Italy. I've never been a religious or spiritual person, but it certainly changed the way I looked at things. We went to a couple of the torture museums there too, it's absolutley horrific what people to to each other in the name of religion.

Be careful where you swear!I'm in Melbourne, don't really have too many car park issues with my local bunnies. Of course, there's always some buffoon who has car park issues and spoils it for the rest of us... That is to say, some buffoon who has car park ettiquite deficiencies. I'm not saying you're a buffoon with car park issues!

Be careful where you swear!Sounds like you've had a pretty good run at Bunnings! I have to admit, although they do stock some pretty crappy stuff, I've never really had an experience that made me swear never to go back. I'm renovating my house at the moment, and they're pretty convenient for paint, timber and most tools. My saws, nail guns and compressor and other tools have all served me well so far. Having said that, there's a lot to be said for going through specialist suppliers too, just not quite as convenient on a Sunday afternoon when you need a few bits and pieces.

Be careful where you swear!I did actually, but I can't really blame them (although I did swear a lot at the manufacturer of the kit). I managed to bend one of the ends a little bit which stopped it going in properly, but it was really hot and my problem solving skills were not quite as keen as they usually are.

Be careful where you swear!Geez, I would have been in all sorts of strife when I was putting the roof on my new shed. It was a 38 degree day (that's 100 on the F scale), and Tab A was just not going into Slot B....

Computer HistoryTwo books I really enjoyed reading were Accidental Empires by Robert Cringely, and Dealers of Lightning: Xerox PARC and the Dawn of the Computer Age by Michael Hiltzik.

Digitizing picture albumYep, I bought an Epson Perfection scanner about 5 years ago. The software that came with it let you put a number of pictures on the plate and it would scan them into separate files, and straighten them up. Not much help if you've already bought a scanner though.

Digital Rebel XTi and Nikon D40X - the grip issueAs far as ergonomics goes, you can't go past the Olympus E-500 IMHO. As soon as I held it, it just felt right. The size, the shape, the balance, everything. The only down side to it is the slightly smaller than normal viewfinder, but I'm used to it now, and you can get a magnifying eye piece for it too. Pity the new Olympus models don't feel as good in the hand. Cheers, Anthony.

How to improve the eyesight ?I'm not sure that you can improve it, but you can look after what you already have. It's important to take regular breaks from staring at your monitor, every 4 hours or so, and stare into the distance to let the muscles around your eyes relax. Eat lots of leafy green vegetables, don't smoke and always wear UV blockout sunglasses in the sun. Cheers, Anthony.
