Yeah, I don't think it works that way. You need big numbers on both sides for it to work, so a few worth of mouth users isn't going to cut it in new markets. Although it may be somewhat easier than starting from scratch. Last night I logged in to my Outlook email. I found myself mumbling curse words under my breath after several malfunctioning login attempts. After about 5 minutes, I managed to log in and I was met with the MS Outlook UI. It's astounding to me that anyone could possibly create such a dysfunctional, counter-intuitive, UI train wreck of binary trash that resembles the absolute epitome of a dumpster fire. I feel your pain.

I'm getting something similar with Outlook. It's connected to Gmail (and others), and only the Gmail items - if I try to mark them as read - always come back as unread. Every other mailbox (non-Gmail) is fine.

When replacing an optimized front end treasury system, I used but two hacks: 1. understand what information they need most and why and put it where they find it and 2. learn all of their keyboard shortcuts and replicate them in the new system. I can't overstate the importance of the ability of the operator to quickly enter all the data with just tab, alphanumerical characters and cursor keys.

Retired from Singapore and moved to Cairns, we knew no one except our son (who we do NOT socialise with). Yeah, same here. I run MX Linux as my main OS and Windows 11 in a QEMU/KVM based VM. Works really well. I also do GPU passthrough so I can play my Steam/GOG games in the VM.

Yep. In their mind it's safer to force-push updates of not only OS programs, but also *any* third parties whose software I installed at one point in the past. I don't automatically trust every new version that comes out, and for many programs I don't even need the security fixes (which often come together with all kinds of regressions, new issues, and sometimes even worse security holes). As a sophisticated user I want to decide what gets installed on my machine and when. But some people simply lack the ability to think critically beyond the (admittedly often justified for novice users) mantra of "keep everything updated at all times".

Today, the family completed moving her to assisted living. It was ugly, but after we got her there, the staff seems to be helping her settle down. We spent the morning getting her room set up.
