IDEs and how they have evolved -
Looking for network monitor. You may want to give Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1 [^] a look. I've used ethereal in the past, but this is a little easier to set up in my opinion, and the new version has a lot of the same features ethereal has, but a little easier to setup and use than in ethereal.

You know you are in South Dakota when...After viewing the driver identification guide, I think I'll stick to my coveralls in SD over driving in Arkansas for example. ;)

Burning an ISO imagedaemon tools worked for me to create a virtual drive... another benefit of the virtual is that it takes less time to install, which gets you to the essential defragment after the install.... :-D

Best job in the world...except you have no lifeYou aren't missing anything. I've been in a similar situation, after about a month of putting in 80+ hours a week because of someone else's mismanagement, the light came on and that stopped. It's simply not worth it to see the affect it has on family and friends, and it's not worth compromising one's character either. I got this in an email this morning, thought it fits FAMILY Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

VIstaI've been running vista ultimate on my notebook (turion x2 with 2GB ram) with no issues. One thing I did was to tweak some of the settings to improve performance, which is no different than I did with XP. I've considered wiping and going XP from the beginning but decided to give Vista a shot. I use the system quite heavily for software development using Visual Studio 2005 and I can honestly say that I would prefer developing on Vista over XP simply because it responds and there is a lot less delays. My work system which is a intel hyperthreader with 2GB takes FOREVER to load vs2k5. There is one feature that Vista has that I take advantage of that XP doesn't offer, Speedboost. Kind of a beech at boot time but advantageous nontheless.

I accidentially deleted the Internet; has someone got a backupI HATE IT when that happens!

Choosing a EnvironmentHaving used both, I prefer VS 2005. Borland has good tools, but I think that VS 2005 has a richer feature set. Besides, for the amount of $$$ it takes to get into Borland, you can spend roughly the same amount and get into MSDN and get a whole lot more than just a development environment.

Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas"I attempted loading on 64 bit 2003 sp2, does not like the installer and blew bits everywhere X| I've loaded it on vista ultimate and it seems to work well, I did notice that it is a bigger resource hog that vs2k5 is, seems to like a lot of memory. running on a pentium 4 (non hyperthread) with about 1 GB of ram.

.NET 3.0Not sure if this will help or not, sysinternals processexplorer (sysinternals.com) allows for showing among other things the commandline of the process that's running... goes a long way toward figuring out rogue svchost processes that seem to suck resources. Good Luck!
