Got to get me some of them 'Rose Tinted Specs'... As I recall it was more like hitting yourself over the head with a unicycle. ;P

Just tried the PC Building Simulator...I'm now off to try his latest project - The Liquid Wall Pigmentation Coagulation Observation Simulator...

Recursive IterationToday I'm banging my head against PHP, and came across this little gem... "The RecursiveIteratorIterator recursively iterates over recursive iterators..." Two Queations: 1) Is there a RecursiveIteratorIteratorIterator class that recursively iterates over recursive iterators in recurstive iterators? 2) Could my previous question have been written more succinctly using recursive iteration?

Who still uses textBook and Tech Manuals as a How to?I've not read paper documentation since I worked in 68k Assembler on an Atari ST... My first proper gig was on a Mac using Metrowerks CodeWarrior to build image manipulation apps for pre-press. Came with 'Inside Macintosh' - on two CDs. I miss books though. There's something really comforting about having pages open next to you that you can flick through, dog ear the corner so you can find it again, and make notes in the margin and such. Halcyon days... Web Components Rant...Cheers Rob, Yes, there are a couple of libraries out there to patch the 'standard', but the use of templates was to reduce the code base... There are work-arounds, I currently include js files that render the modules programatically. HTML templates would have reduced the byte count considerably. My issue is that I need the browser to cache my files (it's an app that requires some limited offline capability), so server side options like AJAX and PHP will fail. iframes would work, but there is a large amount of interaction between elements, which is a real ball ache with multiple sub documents. There's also just something inherently wrong with iframes... My real beef is that, at least according to caniuse.com, Firefox has no intention of supporting 'import', now or in the future. It's available through a switch, but will never make the mainstream engine. The other components are in development or working, just not import. "Ho hum" though eh? Danny

Web Components Rant...Alas, I have met several. They all lived in Narnia and drove Audis... :sigh: Danny

Web Components Rant...After a long time of 'Umming' and 'Arring' I've finally succumbed to the dark side and embraced the concept of 'Web Components'. They happen to offer the ideal solution (in fact) for a project I'm currently working on. The concept (in the unlikely event that any of you are even vaguely interested ;P ) is that they allow me to break a large code and mark up base into reusable blocks (Templates), something 'real' developers have had the ability to do for decades, they allow me to sandbox a node's attribution (Shadow DOM), which is so Firkelling Handy it's a marvel I've got this far without it, and then I can allegedly Import (for import read: #include) all this W3C sanctioned loveliness into my project! I have, to all intents and purposes, objects in a web app! BUT... The only browser that supports the #include bit is only available in Narnia, will only run on an Audi, needs to be launched from the command line with several incomprehensible flags, whilst simultaneously holding down four modifier keys, and standing on one leg, facing North North-East, on a specific day in the Wickan Calendar... WHY? They all support (to some degree) the other 'components', so if they will let me create templates and add them to the Shadow DOM, even create my own tags and use them willy nilly throughout my page, why in the name of all that's holy do I have to put the whole sorry mess in one bloody great big file? Flumoxed. I am going to walk slowly away from the keyboard now, before I type something I may regret. Danny

Audio Programming (10x Extreme Agile)I've been reading with interest recently about the advances in Agile Techniques, and I thought I'd share the latest method to be tested in our offices. It's similar in principle to Mob Programming[^], but it has the added advantage of getting the hole group more involved through a process we are calling "Audio Kinetic Interaction". The technique involves 1 computer and (typically) ten programmers operating in a Dojo environment, being provided with Audio Stimulation by the Dojo Master (or DJ). During this period of stimulation, relaxation and contemplation, the programmers are encouraged to get up and move around, reducing effects such as RSI and Carpel Tunnel as well as stimulating the production of endorphins which boost the thought processes. When this Audio Stimulation stops, the programmers enter the 'Sprint', and often 'Scrum', as they return to their seats to begin coding. There are (typically) only 9 chairs, and none of them are in front of the keyboard... The programmer who entered the deepest states of contemplation and / or generated the most endorphins (by moving furthest away from a chair) gets to write the next line of code.

*UPDATE* Pitch didn't #VOOM...The rhymes on the screen knocked Dan back in his seat, "Wow, this guy is good, but I will not be beat!". So he cracked his knuckles and loosened his tie, And the rhyming couplets started to fly! Face beaded with sweat, all deformed and contorted, As he tried to find something that rhymed with "Transported". [ sorry! ;P] In his chair he squirmed, with his keyboard he battled, He wouldn't give in (but he was getting rattled!). It was plain that this post could go on for a while, "This could make the newsletter" he thought, with a smile. But how to stop members from begging for more? Then he held out his hand - "Let's call it a draw" ;)

*UPDATE* Pitch didn't #VOOM...Oh come on, you spoil sport, Let's Give 'em a show! We might get upvoted, You never know...

*UPDATE* Pitch didn't #VOOM...Yeah, you still got it! Perhaps we should do a duet? ;)

*UPDATE* Pitch didn't #VOOM...Sorry in advance for the rather British Humour... "Well here I am, all alone in the room, Lamenting the fact that my pitch didn’t #VOOM. I worked hard to promote it, I really tried, I would tweet, pin and link till my brain was fried. I put links in my status, and on every forum, I used CAPITAL LETTERS so they couldn’t ignore ‘em. Yet I failed the promotion, it just wasn’t my bag, But before I slope off for a beer and a fag. I’d like to say Thanks to all those who voted, Who twittled and twurpled, and otherwise promoted, The iBIOS pages I built for propelling, This Business idea I was shamelessly selling. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, And I’ve burnt out a kettle, and knackered a toaster, While I sat on the Mac till half 4 in the morning, When the night buggered off and the day started dawning. But your help and encouragement forced me to strive, (and of course, stay up until nearly five) To make sure this pitch was as good as it was, Which, frankly, was bobbins… Cos, “Sod it”, we lost!" Thanks anyway guys! Danny
