Thanks for your help and reply but I think the solution isn't to change the security setting on the email group - it is to ensure that the user authentication is completing successfully. This is what I have no idea about how to check. A reboot of the node may resolve it but I'd like to think it may be caused by a SQL Server user configuration setting that I can test/change and resolve without the need for a reboot. I'd like to understand more about the problem as I don't have much knowledge of diagnosing this user configuration/authentication.

I achieved this in the end by dynamically creating strings to pass in to a SQL statement I was building up. I used MAX and Case statements to achieve this. I finished it an EXEC (@MyString). Thanks for the advice!

Don't use outdated terms like DTS. The current tool would be SSIS. If you don't plan on using entity framework in your sample or something else other than straight ADO.Net in the page, make sure you let them know that a real application would probably use some framework like nHibernate in a real data access layer and not just simple ADO.Net directly in the pages themselves. Unless of course you personally would normally use ADO.Net directly in the pages. If so, slap yourself with a trout hourly until you learn all about separation of concerns and proper object oriented design.

Thanks, yes it would probably be best to just set each numbered thread to use certain segments of the data. For example, I have set the first thread to process rows 0 to 9999 of the DataSet, etc. Thanks

Check which of the lines is returning String.Empty (i.e empty string) as the parameter to Convert.ToInt32() function.
