Don't switch back, instead install Ghostery and uBlock Origin and make sure to disallow everything that is 3rd party, then on each site you wish to visit open up for the features you wish to use apart from those delivered by that site directly. Some of these, i.e gstatic.com you may wish to allow on all sites as that contains oftentimes necessary scripts for the functionality of that site. Never let them bully you into accepting anything non functional, even if that means that you can no longer use their site. If they make it so or too difficult to opt out of everything with them, simply cancel your membership and move on. That is the only way these spammers will ever learn. Most important, never allow googletagmanager.com as that is the very source of their spyware, if you allow that, a whole host of spyware will attempt to install spyware cookies on your machine, so called "tracking cookies".

Why use .NET technologies vs., say, Node?If I were to create a small webapp without the need for significant security, I would consider using node all the way. It is after all very convenient to only have one language to work with in an app, also I do love typescript. Yet, as mentioned, if we are talking about a larger app and need for some real security, .net core is the only way to go for me. Mostly because I know it well and also because I know how to secure my apps using .net core. With node on the server, while it may be possible to write secure code with node on the server, I would have to learn that all over again and given I own my own iis server that would not be something I would even consider at this point. Also, there is Blazor for .net for writing wasm web apps, that I consider using in the frontend instead of Typescript and Angular, because it is convenient to only have one language to work with in a project. My current app, while Blazor was out as a demo when I started, has an Angular frontend and a .net core 3.0 ef core 3.0 backend.

Does Visual Studio 2017 get updates put out WAY TOO OFTEN?I agree, while I favor a frequent cycle of smaller updates, too much is too much. Once every other month is more than enough and I think will help improve code quality as you then will have more time to test decently before shipping.

Musk says we are a computer simulationWe most certainly live in a holographic Universe and we are most certainly AI's in the making. However, that simulation does not run on any computer, it runs inside our very soul which is part of the Creator soul. That is age-old wisdom from the Zohar, 3000 years old. And as it were, the conclusion of quantum mechanics. Cool to see that Elon is starting to get it :)
