The tracks you download from iTunes are CBR 128kbps. That's why they sound like crap. They are. You should have much better luck with the Amazon mp3s. :)

BTW: I think Eclipse is the most extensible IDE available. I may get falmed for that but that is probably true.

Oh, it totally is. Eclipse provides so many extension points, it's awesome. Heck, part of the whole 3.x move was separating the Java language from the Eclipse environment so that you didn't have to use the Java stuff if you didn't want to. That's pretty freakin' awesome, when the primary use-case uses the same extensibility points as everybody else. :)

No. That's all true. Come to the dark side. ;) Actually, you should just play around with Ubuntu 8.04 if you're not familiar with Linux at all. I wouldn't recommend it for serious, hard-core developer use...but plenty of people seem to like it...and it's great for just being able to see what's cool with Linux these days. (There's a lot of stuff that's cool with Linux these days.)

I guess FF and Safari might be very similar. Though I have not gone into the details yet.

Not really in terms of their rendering engines. Firefox uses Gecko. Safari uses WebKit, which shares its roots with KHTML. They render HTML and CSS very differently.

I saw a few greasemonkey clones but did not manage to get them working.

Yeah. But like I said, there's not a whole lot of Greasemonkey specific stuff we use. Mostly it's the WHATWG globalStorage working draft spec, JS 1.7 stuff, and all the "Hey, it works in Firefox, so it's okay" CSS and HTML we inject into the page. You fix those, you can have CPhog on Safari. ;)

Yeah yeah. You Mac users and your need for all those standardized UI gadgets. ;) To be perfectly honest with you, there's no way that we're going to support Safari in the near-future. The way that CPhog works is that we have a very light UserScript that basically serves to inject the real script into the page directly. This enables us to get away from using a lot of the Greasemonkey-specific functions we'd have to use for things like XmlHttpRequest and the like. However, that's also enabled us to do a lot of cool stuff with globalStorage and Javascript 1.7 and the like that aren't supported in the current versions of any browser other than Firefox. It would be easy to abstract the storage stuff....seeing as how it's in a nice StorageWrapper class I wrote. We've thought about doing that to provide storage persistence for users across machines. But some of the JS, DOM, and CSS features we're using are only present in Firefox. You'd have to really convince one of us that there's a strong Safari use-case here...which would be hard because, for all of the comments about how responsive we are to user requests, we really only care about ourselves. Most of the features in CPhog are there because we get irritated with something and decide that we want to fix stuff. Basically, you're going to have to buy Shog or myself a Mac, convince us that Safari rocks, and get us to use it. Same thing goes for Opera. John Cardinal said that he'd use CPhog if we provided an Opera version of it. I looked at it and decided, in about 10 minutes, that there's no way we're going to invest that time and effort. But you're welcome to branch the code and try to get CPhog working on Safari. I'll even give you svn access if you want. ;)

Wow. To date, I've never had a problem with Dell. I had to wait a week or so for my machine to get here (a year ago, when I first ordered it)...but that's because I ordered it the day it was released. Typically they've got super-fast turnaround. I haven't had any issues with their customer service. I'd love to be bored with the alienation stories. ;P

How would moving to a p2p architecture remove the possibility of multiple game types? All of those gametypes sound like they would work equally well in a distributed environment and a p2p environment.

Live it. Seriously. If you really want to impress someone and make sure they know what you know, then you gotta make it such an embedded source of knowledge that you don't even have to think about what you're saying, you can just spew intelligent thoughts as soon as you're asked a question. These certs are equivalent to getting a good grade on a multiple choice exam. It means nothing compared to a good grade on an essay exam. When you can speak in depth about a subject and really have a thorough understanding, that's when someone knows that you really know what you're talking about.

Heh. In this case, it's out of the fire, and into the frying pan. I was working for LandAmerica Title before, which was a huge company...and a title insurance company, no less! ;P At least Cardinal has a forward-thinking vision for technology. With few exceptions, the title industry just doesn't get technology. It was an uphill battle to get the higher-ups to realize that they had to invest in technology. So I'm looking forward to being part of a group of people that actually has funding and support for what they're trying to do. So yeah, I know about the hell I'm entering. But you know what, I'm okay with it. For right now, I'm selling my soul for money. If, at some point, I decide that I'd like my soul back, I'll start doing my own thing. That'll be a bit down the road, though. :)
