  • Own server an aid in learning to develop?
    D db7uk

This is fine. SQL server generally tries to obtain as much memory as possible but this is not an issue for small scale development. If you really are concerned by memory etc, I would look at creating a VM and hosting your server on that. You can use a great product from Oracle no less. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen[^] install the software and load an image onto your pc. It is great because you set the memory, cpu and disk so if your sql server was on the vm and you limited the vm to 2gb, you never use any more than that. Anyway, your pc seems more than capable for this. I have (unfortunately) worked on lesser memory than yours so it should be fine!!! Just go ahead and install. If the performance is a real pain, re-think and uninstall or turn of the services... either way, there is no harm in playing! :-D

  • Own server an aid in learning to develop?
    D db7uk

To learn this stuff a server is not needed. You should install software on your own pc. If you really wanted to have a client server relationship you could spin up a virtual machine on your dev box. You will need good RAM but would be cheaper than server. Added to that, If you wanted to look at servers, Azure cloud hosting would be a very cost effective solution!!

  • So, a survey on my property happened...
    D db7uk

I am in process of buying and selling a house. The buyers of our property have completed their survey and after speaking the the surveyor he mentioned that the joists in the kids bedroom seemed to be a problem and need investigating. The house is an old house (1870 - 1900) and I have not noticed a problem but what will this mean? I have no idea on what could happen in terms of cost but don't want to loose the buyer. Should I take the cost out of their pocket money or should I hold my ground?

Chin up. You can only do so much. At the end of the day (well week in your case), it is not going to matter one bit. I know the pain you feel and have my thoughts... There is nothing worse than working on something when you have no more love for it.

Mmmmm well actually strange but I got my 920 yesterday. Personally I love the device so far, but then it is only a day old. Looking at other devices, I could not see one better. If one were to quote "i-phone" then maybe a flock of sheep is near by.

Nice. I look forward to it. you did say initially that creating the addin for 2010 was not pleasant. But you did. I would hope 2012 would have been better but I am sure you will succeed. Cloud services from Intel? sounds like fun. Been looking at the Azure stuff recently. Mainly their VM's and cloud based services which look great. They have just increased the price too which is nice :)

I am still amazed by their brazen ways. I really feel in limbo land. Not that HTML 5 with the JS libraries are anything bad, in fact I quite like angular, node etc but, its just when have had the taste for something good and its taken away it just feels odd. I am hoping WPF will continue to burn brightly otherwise I take drastic measures and learn PHP X| Anyway, hope you you Pete? Long time since I spoke to you. Liked the blogs on Perceptuals!!!
