RE: Science fiction - highly recommend the Expanse series. The author is James S. A. Corey, a pseudonym for a 2-person writing team. It was made into a TV series that started on the SciFi channel and finished either on Amazon Prime or Netflix. Can't remember now. The series was pretty decent. Hewed pretty closely to the books' story lines. The books were really good.

What people search for...Remember that Google sells the right to associate your ads with specific search terms. Thus, the terms listed may not have been searched that often, just that advertisers paid the most to be associated with those terms. Of course, there had to be enough people searching for those terms to get the click count up, but there might have been only a little correlation.

Gawd but I feel rough.I know feeling awful like that sucks, but here's the positive side of it: it indicates you have a robust immune system. I've been dealing with lymphoma for over 7 years now, and the worst aspect of the type I have is that it knocks my white count down, down, down. After not reacting to the 1st 2 shots and 2 boosters, the oncologist ordered a special blood test that revealed no antibodies. She explained that my crappy immune system just didn't react to the vaccines. Given your reaction, it's likely you now have LOTS of antibodies :)

Windows 11 upgrade noobie questionI'm mostly in your camp. Just now, based on recommendations above, I installed Open Shell. Pretty quickly uninstalled it. It's pretty darned easy to just type what you want in the search box or to pin a few things you use a lot to the taskbar.

...lighten up Francis..what we have here is a failure to communicate...Slightly off topic but related to your quote: 50+ years ago in college, my roommate who was in mechanical engineering, said one of his professors advised the class that, when designing machinery for factory floors, be sure to consider the BFH effect. The BFH effect, you ask? That's when a guy on the factory floor decides to adjust the machine with a Big Effing Hammer.

Microsoft moneySince it now has downloads it may be worth giving it another try. Thanks for that info!

Microsoft moneyLooked at GnuCash several years ago and, IIRC, it doesn't do automatic downloads from banks & credit card issuers, does it?
-
Microsoft moneyIIRC, Money used a different download or connection process than Quicken did and the sunset Money edition was limited or crippled in that regard. It's been a LONG time since I tried the sunset edition, and that description may be totally wrong. Is there a way to import a large Quicken file into the sunset edition? I'd be happy to try it again. Now that I'm retired I have more time to fiddle with it
-
Microsoft moneyWhen MS Money came out I switched over from Quicken and LOVED Money I was a heartbreak when MS discontinued it. Used the sunset edition for a while, but I felt I HAD to switch back to Quicken in order to use the automatic downloads. Wife & I have several credit cards and both joint and separate bank accounts. Too much manual data entry without the automatic downloads. Tried Money in Excel for a little while (also now discontinued), but that brings/brought down all transactions from all sources into a single Excel table. Parsing the table's data into separate accounts and then reconciling was too much work. I'd love to try some alternative to Quicken. The annual subscription model is a blatant money grab for damned little in the way of improvement. If you don't pay it, they disable transaction downloads. You can't even download a qfx file from each bank to your PC and then import it. The key thing for me for any alternative would be having a file converter that could ACCURATELY read my many years of Quicken data.

"We GOT your payment..."My pet peeves are: 1) real when really is correct. I'm real mad at you. 2) impact when used instead of influence or affect. Our profits were impacted by the pandemic. 3) nauseous when nauseated is correct. In a wonderful book from 40 years ago, titled The Elements of Style, by Strunk & White, they devoted some space to commonly misused words. They pointed out that nauseous means capable of causing nausea, so don't say "I feel nauseous" unless you are sure you have that effect on others.

have anyone used this device?I've been using this with 2 different Surface Pros for several years - since the USB-C version of the Plugable first came out. No issues, though I don't run the monitor off it. I use the DisplayPort port for that

Financial Modeling World CupSaw some articles late last week and over the weekend describing YouTube livestreams of Excel pros competing in a Financial Modeling World Championship "esports" competition. I'm vaguely aware that some YouTubers are making millions of $$ livestreaming their online gaming endeavors, but have no sense what the entertainment value there would be. However, I spent years working in Excel for financial institutions, building models both simple and complex, and was baffled by the idea that somebody would willingly spend upwards of 90 minutes to watch Excel experts competing on these models. OK, so thinking that maybe you might learn something by watching, I invested about 15 minutes to watch a portion of one of the videos. [^]FMWC Open - Dec 8 (America Session) - Excel as esports - YouTube[^] Initial suspicions were confirmed. The views of competitors' screens are small, you can't really see well what they're doing, you have little chance to tease out any single person's approach or logic, and they move from cell to cell so quickly that you can't even begin to see the formulas they've used. Additionally, in the portion I saw, they had 3 "experts" in small windows at 3 corners of the screen commenting on what "current" competitor was doing - that competitor appearing in the 4th corner of the screen. They have links below the video to the various challenges on the FMWC web site, but if you want to see completed Excel models, it'll cost you $10 US EACH to download the files. Am I wrong to think Excel as an esport is bizarre?

So ... Leviathan's Fall is out.Yowsa. That explains a lot. Never saw that bit of news. Thanks

So ... Leviathan's Fall is out.The Expanse series is one of my all-time favorite series of books. For the most part I like how Amazon has put the story onscreen, though it's really puzzling why they killed off Alex. Like you, I don't like the idea of either the books or the Amazon series ending. Are you at all interested in Apple's attempt to film Asimov's Foundation series?
-
Found your next laptopBut doing that also changes the processor. Probably changes other options as well, but I didn't look too closely
-
Proper Science Fiction FilmsThe Expanse has been a delight. It's a relief, too, that they've mostly stuck to the story lines in the books. Waiting anxiously for the next installments to show up

New search in OutlookChris Maunder wrote:
No option to restrict the search to "this folder" instead of "this mailbox" (which massively improves performance)
Hmmm. Mine allows me to restrict it to "Current Folder" as well as other options, once the down arrow next to "Current Mailbox" is clicked

Tom Lehrer music now public domainHave loved him since the 70s. In the 80s found that a local theater company was presenting the musical "Tomfoolery," performing a number of his songs. Of course I attended. The one they did best was "I Hold Your Hand in Mine" and "The Hunting Song" was a close second.
