I don't normally post this type thing, but I feel the need to pass it on. My Mother-In-Law just got a phone call telling her that she had a virus on her computer. They knew she was AT&T and they knew she had DSL. They did not know her Name/ IP/ MAC. They claimed their IIS server flagged her traffic. They also claimed they has Microsoft certified engineers that could repair any damage. They tried to get her to download a remote-control program from the internet. She actually got as far as clicking the download button on the website. Luckily Security Essential caught it, threw a huge temper tantrum, and that's when I got brought in. The person on the other end of the phone was clearly in a overseas call center (I could hear the call center noise, and other languages being spoken. I can only guess as to the nationality). The person became very evasive when I started asking hard questions. The phone number came in as 855-791-1191. Goggling that number shows many similar complaints. My guess is the next step was to infect her computer, then sell her virus removal/ repair services. Scanned the computer with multiple legitimate scanners, and it is clean. My 60+ mother-in-law was very unequipped to deal with that type of call. Please educate those around you to be careful. -Ed

Actively looking for a job in North America, will accept $1,000,000/hour [modified]No clue on that one. Hopefully, somebody else can chime in on that one.

Actively looking for a job in North America, will accept $1,000,000/hour [modified]I recommend just going to Dice and apply to a few postings, that should get your name and resume in their systems. That's usually all I have to do to start the phone ringing. I don't even post an updated resume anymore.

Don't you just love itI have stacks of evidence. Complete with video of me jumping up and down screaming at the top of my lungs saying how bad it is. I'm still blamed for it.... My other job title is "Scape Goat".

Actively looking for a job in North America, will accept $1,000,000/hour [modified]Dallas has lots of .Net jobs right now. Some days, my phone is ringing off the hook. Probably the best overall job market in the US right now. And a relatively low cost of living. But not much in the 1million/hour range right now. If I can find that, I'm taking it, you're on your own. Sorry :) Good Luck! -Ed

Help me iam getting stack overflow exeception , while my solution build successfully , but it threw the stack overflow errorIt does look like the output from Reflector when used on a .net assembly, that was built in release mode, with the "Optimize code" box checked. Maybe he should contact the person that wrote the original code to start with, and get the real, (hopefully commented) source. And hope that source isn't copyrighted....

Visual studio task listI always use #warning for these kind of things. It forces a warning at compile time. And no code goes into production until all warnings are removed.

stored proceduresIn a previous life we used SQL Server CE, and it didn't support stored procedures. We also made the decision to reuse the embedded CE C# code on the desktop platform (write once, use in both places). So we ended up with a desktop system that couldn't use stored procedures either.

I'm beginning to feel like I want to take an axe to every computerInstead of trying to magically 'know' what state the DVD player is in, try using a Video Sync Sensor. A base unit will only detect if power is on or off (by detecting the presence or absence of a video sync signal), but a nicer unit will know if the output signal is 'moving' (e.g. not snow, or blue screen). Just a thought. -Ed

How sadIANAL. However, every range where I live has it plastered all over the walls that under FEDERAL LAW, leaving a firearm where a child is likely to be, or is able to obtain it is an automatic felony. 5 year sentance. Very sad, very preventiable.
