Hello everybody I finally have a bit of time to look into a problem which has been annoying me for some months, without a solution so far. I'm hoping some clever guru will take pity on me and help resolve it. :) The situation: I have created a custom control that uses a data source to display dates on a web site, and allow the user to select a range of dates. However, I have different problems depending on the data source I use. - Access database using a dataset generated in VS 2005: selecting a range works beautifully However, I then can't overwrite the Access file on my ISP's web server, and besides, it's overkill for a handful of records, so I tried solution number 2: - XML file loaded into a dataset created in my code: the control "forgets" the data source when the user selects a range. The control in its buggy XML incarnation is visible here: http://www.eburrows.co.uk/apt111/availabilitybug.aspx. While its working Access dataset-based version is here: http://www.eburrows.co.uk/apt111/availability.aspx Of course, full source code will be provided to anyone kind enough to volunteer their expertise! :) Thanks!

Code Project window widthChris Maunder wrote:
I'm *this* close to putting a PayPal link up on the homepage to ask for donations to get you a decent screen. 17"? CRT? That's cruel and unusual.
And its vertical hold is on the blink so every now and then, I get a ripple effect as the picture shrinks and then resizes again! You're right, maybe I should start a collection so I can afford a new one. :) We're just not as rich as we used to be before having children... that, and I'm waiting for the price of 20-inch TFTs to drop so I can make my husband's cheap 17-inch TFT look silly. ;) In the meantime, the bit of IE CSS someone suggested solved the problem. Why didn't I think of that? (though I can imagine that from your point of view, it's not great as it circumvents some of your ads).

And there you go - my problem is solved. I knew I was right to have a whinge about it here! :)

Code Project window widthI guess most people these days won't be as bothered as I am, but the width of the Code Project layout really annoys me and I feel it's time I mentioned it! :) I have a 17-inch CRT set to 1028x768 so I can actually read it with my relatively poor eyesight. I gather Code Project is designed to be displayed in a window about 1028 pixels wide. This is OK if I'm viewing the page full screen, but very irritating when I have it in a smaller window (for instance, to copy and paste to VS, or check more than one page at once). In this case, I have to scroll to the right in order to get past the advert on the left and actually read the meaningful content and the menu items on the right. It's not difficult to do, and of course, it'll be fixed when I get that 20-inch TFT monitor I've always dreamed of, but as I have to do it every single time I visit the site right now, it would be nice to have at least the option of a narrower window layout...

Incorrect redirect URL replying to article feedbackIt's probably only a problem for this one article, but when I reply to feedback on my RawInput article[^], clicking Post Message tries to redirect to its former location in UserItems[^]. Just thought I would point this out as an ickle tiny bug. :)

codeproject leech site...Actually, now I've gone to look for it, I'm wondering how the source code for my BabyKeyboardBash application - only posted on CodeProject - has ended up on the following two Chinese sites too: Link 1[^] Link 2[^] Interestingly, links to my articles (with my name still attached), appear on DevAsp.net, hivewiki.com, codeguru.cn, manbu.net (of course), and ecodebank.com, as well as yagah.sonance.net, www.codeproject.com.look-for.us, pagebang.com and securebar.secure-tunnel.com, which all seem to be crawlers that actually display a copy of the Code Project site. (I decided not to include direct links rather than give any of these sites further ratings with search engines)

Maybe you could redirect all file requests from their domain to the badger-badger song
Gah! I'd only just got that one out of my head. Badger-badger-badger-mushroom-mushroom... argh, it's back!

Hiring is such a subjective process that any and all things can influence the decision to hire or not to hire, as the case may be, any individual showing up for an interview.
Or the decision not to call people in for an interview at all. I remember a former boss of mine complaining that he had got so many applications for one job that he just *had* to eliminate candidates on criteria he felt might be unfair. In his case, he didn't even interview anyone who didn't have all the relevant Microsoft certifications - which would have stopped me getting my own job back off him. (He also rejected any CV that demonstrated an inability to spell, in which I did support him :)). He just couldn't interview that many people. I can easily imagine less conscientious people applying a variety of questionable criteria. I must admit I'm worried about this kind of thing not because of age, but because of family situation. When I have finished feeding, nappy-changing and mothering a successive two infants into toddlerhood, I will have been away from the permanent, office-based job market for four years. I'm just hoping that the occasional contract and freelance job, and a few articles on Code Project will be enough to convince employers that my brain hasn't been atrophied by baby vomit! :~

Don't try coding with voice recognition:laugh::laugh::laugh: Yes, coding is definitely not something voice recognition is made for - my husband and I were clutching our sides laughing! It would have taken about ten seconds on a keyboard - not ten minutes. :-D

What's really cool is when you have a feature article, a latest top article, and one in the latest submissions list, and they're all different!
Well, of course, if you're a "Legend", you just have to put up with that kind of thing. ;)

Featured articleThanks! I see the article also got an additional vote, so its brief showcasing bore some fruits. :)

"1 vote has for this article"Huh? As of right now, the article Really Dynamic Master Pages[^] has one vote, announced with the text "1 vote has for this article". Presumably, articles with only one vote aren't very common, but it looks as if the code for "number of votes=1" might need a little tweak. :)

Featured articleI did read somewhere around here that the randomness is indeed limited to higher rated articles, but there are still quite a few of those around and it was nice to see mine there. :-> The added irony is that I was actually working on improving the code in that article and just came to check something on Code Project when I saw it. Nice surprise.

Featured articleI know it was only random and it's gone already, but I was nonetheless thrilled to see my Low-level Windows API hooks from C# to prevent unwanted keystrokes[^] as the Featured Article on the main page. Makes me feel I've arrived (not sure where, mind you...)
