Thanks for your reply, I have a render event in my control that fires to fill up the textboxes etc... You have given my an idea to why this is happening, it appears that the value thats in passed to the first control is now 0 at postback, i'll have to create some kind of collection to store these in session. However when i fix this value, the controls a rendered but i now lose all my data as everything goes to 0. So is appears that all the data in the controls is lost due to the postback. this is going to be one almighty collection stored in session, the viewstate is going to be massive! yeah - if you factor the class so that it has a setup/init stage where you feed it paras etc then a do_it() method that returns the result or a seperate get_result() method, then you're in good stead 'g'

eh, you have int,double and string as well but you still need to make the existing code work, compile and build before you can convert to .Net just because .net as these function, isn't an answer you've missed the point! The existing code creates an instance of Ctime which is a MFC function, if i dont use this or an equivalent method, how can leverage .net time functions in C++

You can simply compile your MFC application with the /CLR switch (project property, Configuration Properties|General|Common Language Runtime support.) If I must move an application from native to .NET, my own preference is to understand how the application works and then rewrite it in C# and fully leverage .NET. (I've had some code move almost straight across with mostly cosmetic changes--like having to put public in front of methods and so forth.) I couldn't find any built in functions to do such large conversions. However, I had some code to convert Hex to Dec and vice versa. I made some modifications to ensure the conversion would work with the largest decimal number allowed. Here is the code which I believe works perfectly. If you discover a problem let me know. It is a strange practice to name your field timestamp and then fill them with a datetime or smalldatetime data type. I'm assuming that your timestamp field is in fact a datetime or smalldatetime, because the timestamp data type is binary - and would not update without error using the dateadd as you show. Plus, the timestamp data type is updated automaticaly when you change the value of a field. Use SQL Express or move to one of the other free alternatives (MySql, etc.) Having used SQL Server for many years, I found it fairly cheap for what it does. It is the only server I have that has never 'burped'. We used to buy CALs many years back but, switched to per processor when SQL 2000 came out. At 2 processors running for 6 years with 30+ active users/devices that comes out to about $50 bucks per user per year with no license managment headaches. I am not even counting our Internet hits. Granted, coming up with the $10K in the beginning was tough. I think you will find the pricing competitive with Oracle and other mature datbases.

OK. What you will need to do is, as the control is dropped on your user control, identify what type of control it is. I assume that you want this control to be persistant (i.e. still there when you restart your app later). If so, you need to store a list of controls to be populated on your user control. You could store the list in an XML file, or in the registry. Finally, you need to dynamically create the controls; both at startup, and when a new control is added. Remember that you are not actually dropping a control on your usercontrol, you are identifying the type of control. Sorry is this is kind of vague. I have not actually done this. Is the issue with the time it takes to retrieve the data, or the time to populate the chart? Or are you getting the chart to retrieve the data directly (which would make it hard to see what part is taking up the time)? However, the best thing to do is send your inquiry into support@dundas.com , and give them more details about the situation (the size of the dataset, the type of chart, the method you are using to populate the chart, etc.) Troy
