  • Re-encoding - Is there such a thing?
    J Jason Hutchinson

The MP3 codec is a lossy format. Unfortunately, there is no way back to the original file size without loss. The only real way to fix it would be to encode them at the desired bitrate from uncompressed WAV files.

I think boxing would be pretty entertaining as well. A good punch could send you spinning.

If you divide 80 hours into 7 days it is roughly 11.4 hours a day. If you factor in a half hour meal break, then it works out to be around a 12 hour shift.

  • Do software developers really need degrees?
    J Jason Hutchinson

I don't think that all developers need degrees, but I did. Without my degree, I would have never been able to get the job I have today. My employer has very strict hiring standards. A degree is absolutely required to even be able to apply for my position.

But, at the same time, I believe you can get by perfectly well without one—you’ll just have a few less opportunities—a few more doors that are closed to you. For a software developer, the most important thing is the ability to write code. If you can demonstrate that ability, most employers will hire you—at least it has been my experience that this is the case.

I agree with the author on this point. There are many places that will hire without a degree, but you will have many more opportunities with one regardless whether or not you view it as just a piece of paper. Kudos the developers that were able to make it without a degree.

  • Losing Rep Points For Cancelling Opt-In For Newsletter
    J Jason Hutchinson

I recently lost 50 reputation points for removing the opt in for the Newsletter. I was opted in for several months, and it really didn't have anything in it that interested me. I don't think it is fair to lose the whole 50 points. They must have also looked at my profile and determined that it wasn't professional enough so they took away another 250 points for that. I'm a bit disillusioned with the site right now..
