What a bunch of idiots. They don't have the guts to say - he should have quit of his own volition, instead of being forced out on threat of being fired by Cheney and co.

New Sanctions ImposedAfrica is always going to be violent and downtrodden. There is no solution here. The natives that have some education are going to leave for Western shores - so you are left with uneducated people with a medieval mentality armed with modern day weapons. I agree sanctions only hurt the average person in the country and generally the dictator survives. But the alternative is using force. Look at the genocide in Rwanda. That was real actual genocide. If the UN did nothing in that situation, it says that they are never going to risk Western lives for African conflicts. When Westerner are involved there is going to be overwhelming force to punish them and then they will pull out. The only solution left is to form an African peace corp with the power to invade countries to restore order. There would have to be checks and balances to make sure it was not corrupted. This would allow a local, less foreign solution to native African problems and would not risk Western lives.

Colin Powell to resign top US jobGiven all the conflicts between the WH and State Dep, I was expecting ol' Colin to be the first to go. Gonna be a thoroughly right wing gov. from now on I suspect.

ExcecutedI recognize this clip from the around a year and a half ago - it is not recent. It was shot during the brief period at the beginning of the invasion that the media was allowed free rein. It is difficult to judge for me based on the short clip. If the Iraqi was armed and shooting beforehand and then the soldiers were justified within the rules of engagement. If he was a civilian caught in the crossfire, then it was cold blooded murder. I suspect the former. That said the entire war is really the question mark for me. To justify this brutality, political lies were spread. We should not pass judgement in our safe homes on soldiers in Iraq. We should however be pressuring the politician to justify the invasion and use a more helpful approach to the occupation. This invasion of cities is difficult to understand. Most likely scenes like that were repeated hundreds of times recently within Falluja.

Tax ReformI'm not saying it would be necessarily be more efficient, but it would allow the quick reallocation of moneys to where they are needed. There is a certain inertia in beauracracies, politicians do not want to upset their government employees, because they know that they have a certain amount of power on their own and they rely on them for many things. With this system it would put the responsibility for funding on the broad shoulders of the public. If the Housing and Urban Development Dept was corrupt (and it has been) for example, the public could find out about it and reduce funding or demand a new system be drawn up or threaten to starve it of funds.

Response to Arafat is deadAfter you. Ladies first.

Response to Arafat is deadWell Iraq attacked Iran, didn't it? And Israel is just a small nation on the Eastern end of the Mediterrannean, why even mention it? :-D
-
Response to Arafat is deadAs far I care the whole Middle East should be armed with nuclear weapons so they can have at each other like they really want to, in a glorious thermonuclear exchange for history books. It will be reduced to a smouldering lifeless wasteland and then we can we can walk in and pump out all the oil. Perfect solution. :-D

Tax ReformWhat do you think democracy is? The word Democracy is Greek for "Will of the People". I don't think anything would go unfunded - some randomly vote. YOu would phase it in a little at a time - start out with 10% of the budget democraticly apportioned, then 15%, and as people become more familiar with their own govenment, then gradually increase it.
-
Tax ReformWhat do you think? We pay taxes and politician always seem to give lip service to this "direct democracy" idea. But it seems to me if they really were interested in this concept they would do one little thing. When we fill out our tax forms and pay out a goodly portion of our income to the common good, there should be some way of dividing that money to area where we want it to go. Technology has allowed great strides in the processing of data - I say it is time to let it work for us.
