I'm looking for book recomendations for developing against Active Directory with C#. I've gone through the DirectoryServices namespace documentation in the MSDN library, but it falls short in covering the directory entry properties, etc... or I just haven't been looking in the right place. Any good books or web references would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Any good Active Directory programming books? -
Does your IT shop use program naming conventions? That's one of the things we're debating right now. All of our VB6 stuff is 8 or less, but ASP files are all over the board. Is the 8 character limit an artificial one or were you forced due to tools or something? Jim

Does your IT shop use program naming conventions?I'm curios about what other IT shops do for naming conventions of their applications and components. We have a mix of verbose/descriptive names as well as systematic/abbreviated names. What's the industry trend? Thanks, Jim

Do you use version control (and related horror stories)How about having a VSS database setup for a team of developers, but only one person has check-out/in rights. It took a few "collisions", but now all of the developers finally can check in and out. Like many others, I can't imagine not using at least some form of basic source code control, even on my own projects.

Was Independent, Now EmployeeI keep myself motivated by telling myself that there are huge opportunities to shape and grow parts of the IT department. I understand the night time stuff. I've been teaching myself .NET evening/weekends even though my employer has no immediate plans to migrate until early next year. Thanks, Jim

Was Independent, Now EmployeeThis is my first post, I hope it's in the right board. Anyway, I had been an independent for the last 3 years and found business a little slow over the last year as you can imagine. I accepted a perm position in an IT department almost 2 months ago. I'm finding the transition to be more difficult than I expected. I've worked on medium to large scale web apps, front-end to back-end as an independent. The size, scope, and importance of the projects I'm working on now just don't feel the same. The expectations are different too. As a contractor you're usually expected to be productive fairly quickly on new projects. I was begging for work by the end of my first week on the job. The pace is slower than I'm used to. So, I was curious to hear how others have handled the transition. Am I crazy or what? Jim
