Hi Joe, That's an interesting off-the-wall question to ask in an interview. I do think it's inappropriate. But I also think many of the almost "routine" interview questions asked these days : like : "tell us about a time when you made a serious error of judgement, and what you learned from that" ... are totally stupid. I would have turned it around and said something like : "I think the term 'politically correct' has many current interpretations and meanings : perhaps you could help me understand what that term means to you right now so I can respond accurately to what you have in mind." On the other hand if, by this time in the interview I had decided the interview was so stupid I didn't want to work for the company, I would have exited politely. best, Bill
"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly."
