  • Rush to MS Vista
    J JohnSaxby

I don't know if this has already been raised. There seems to be a lot of excitement about Vista and talk of companies purchasing large numbers of PCs in readiness for its official release. What happened to the old adage still practised in the UK that you never pioneer any new technology, never run on the new version of an operating system (Release -2 used to be popular) or of a compiler. Never, unless necessary, change the look and feel for the users. I guess this doesn't apply anymore.

  • EU Fine for Microsoft
    J JohnSaxby

I just followed a link from Jordan re: Microsofts intention to appeal against the EU fine. The Microsoft explanation is that they did not know what information to supply when told to expose their protocols. Normally I would laugh if I heard a company say they did not know what to supply to their competitors to enable them to interface with their product. In MIcrosofts case I am inclined to believe them, that just about seems to be their level of competence. :~

  • MAC to run Windows
    J JohnSaxby

According to link in the news letter you can run Windows on a MAC via 3rd party product. Anyone know why you would want to run Windows when you've got a MAC?

  • Vista OS PC-to-PC
    J JohnSaxby

Microsoft spokesman says "While PC-to-PC Sync is a great feature that improves productivity and collaboration we don't have it at the quality level our customers demand,As a result the decision was made to remove it from Windows Vista." If Microsoft customers wouldn't put up with it one can only shudder with the thought of how bad it was John Saxby

  • Hackers are good for you
    J JohnSaxby

I've just read an article pointed to by the newsletter where some one compares coding and bridge building. (I must say though there are no holes in my code.) Instead of moaning on and on about hackers, people should realise that the sort of testing these guys/gals do for free would cost $millions. So nobody likes it when someone points out a bug in public, but think what Microsoft products would be like if it weren't for hackers. Imagine if governments were the only hackers. Well done to them all I say and whatever the cost its much cheaper than any testing team and they still wouldn't find them the slipshod oafs. :Laugh
