BTW, who can complain about colored file tabs (based on the project the file belongs too).

The colored tabs are sweet. Does anyone know if they can be applied to SSMS? I recall the SSMS team saying something about their tabs were pulled from Visual Studio, and so they couldn't fix all the issues they have with them. Makes me wonder if there are some registry hacks somewhere to re-use the goodness.

  • SSDs

I just added an SSD to my work machine about a month ago, and can report the difference is phenomenal. I am amazed they'd say that there are no measurable differences. I don't need to run any tests to tell you there was a major impact on system performance. Is it going to help your build time, or waiting on IIS? No. But booting, application launching and switching, updating SVN, etc. are seriously noticeable. VS 2010 went from behaving like a pig to virtually no lag at all. They aren't cheap, but if you can get your company to pay for it, it'll pay for itself in productivity very quickly.

OK good stuff, thanks for the reply, that all makes sense. Any thoughts on the rest of this flurry of announcements?

So first Microsoft announced IIS Express, which seemed sort of useful. Then they announced SQL Server CE4, which seemed to me to have too much overlap with SQL Server Express. Then Razor, which makes no sense to me (is this Microsoft's PHP?). Now WebMatrix, which appears to be yet another "simple" GUI. What's going on over there in Redmond? Can someone explain to me the need for all these stripped-down techs? Is Microsoft experiencing a crisis of faith in ASP.NET?

  • Anyone crazy enough to run Win7 beta as their primary OS?
    J jpeterson

For what it's worth, I tried to install it as my primary OS on both a Dell desktop and an HP laptop and it failed to complete installation on both. I was kind of bummed, I like playing with new things too. :)
