Foxit mobile works well for me. A few other I tried didn't open some of the PDF's I had, but Foxit works good so far. I didn't compare much other than that.

  • am I the only guy annoyed with Microsoft?
    K kerem ispirli

A couple of months ago I installed Linux Mint for daily usage, never looked back. Blazing fast, no virus risk, incredibly stable, never had any problems with updating (did not check auto-updates though). What amazes me everytime: After enabling "Fast Boot" option in BIOS, when I push the power button, login screen is up before I can put my hand back on my mouse. And this is some 2-cores 3GHz 4GB RAM machine, i.e. no fancy hardware. Meanwhile; at the exact same time I installed a fresh Win10 on my laptop which is 4-cores 2.something GHz 6GB (i.e. better than my desktop). No AV, no crapware, not even MS Office or any other office suite. Just productivity stuff like Launchy and Search Everything, Visual Studio for development and Firefox as browser. It's already sluggish as hell.

After getting both of my credits cards hacked, I dont use them anymore so I guess that's the best protection. If you really need one though, maybe using a wallet-sized aluminium/alloy card holder box can help?

    Hi Marc, This:

I'm deriving so much emotional gratification that I never actually start the project! Sounds crazy, right? So, the other "trick" that I do is to stop myself from investing emotionally in the imagination and instead focus on the doing.

This has been my second biggest stopper in my life, ever since I was a kid. I feel like not only getting the satisfaction from my imaginary success, but also consuming all my energy that drives me towards that achievement. And I still dont have a solution for it, except "be aware, stop thinking/dreaming, find something else to focus". Do you have any tips on how to "stop investing emotionally in the imagination and focus on doing"? I would love to hear! Kerem

Same here. Mint-Cinnamon; lightning fast, stable, just works. As soon as I find a replacement for Ditto, it'll be perfect. I only keep a win10 for .Net development, which even may be replaced by Mono sometime in the future.

  • Suggest me a different job!
    K kerem ispirli

I think this is a very good opportunity for you. Spend some time to imagine if you had the perfect requirement list and start writing down whatever is missing in current situation. Then you have something that you can act upon. Don't ignore this: This is part of the work and should be estimated, so you are not using any tactics or whatsoever here. Looks like your boss really needs education on software projects, but it's not something you can fix; you can only "show by doing". When you have such a list, from your boss' perspective, you will have a better approach than "making excuses with buzzwords like 'requirements' or 'specifications'". Result: You will have a meaningful estimation on when you can start implementing the project. Your boss may still expect an estimation for actually delivering the project, but then you can handle it because you will have some ground which you can base your fat estimates on. (ps: if I were you, I would go for obese estimates.) Do not forget to explicitly mention that "these estimates will be updated as you proceed on this initial learning phase"; this will show your confidence and should give your boss some relief after seeing those numbers  And now you can choose your new job: Team lead? Product Owner? Mentor (of your boss)? Architect? Technical Lead? Man, you ARE lucky :-\

  • Have you suffered from burnout, and how did you recover?
    K kerem ispirli

That's my dream. Have my own farm, work with soil out there; have my office inside and work in it other times. I may be wrong but I expect to have enough free time from both of them to satisfy the other. You already have the experience, so what do you think? Would that be an alternative for you or am I dreaming too much? "The primary trait of a good programmer is laziness. Nobody works harder to do nothing than a good programmer." - MehGerbil

Comodo Dragon and Maxthon Mobile. Considering to make Maxthon primary browser, due to really interesting features.

Mine reads FGĞIOD. That is Turkish national keyboard which is officially obligatory for anything with a keyboard, but no one cares since QWERTY invasion via computers. Far healthier than Q layout (which is the case for any layout that's not Q), far easier for locals.

  • Multiple browser-window-tab configurations?
    K kerem ispirli

Instead of keeping tabs open somewhere or bookmarking articles/pages only to forget them until they are outdated, I use Simpleology[^] DreamCatcher (via browser addon) for storing and reminding me them as soon as I am ready to build a new working plan. This process also gives me time for my initial curiosity to calm down, which occasionally result in me cancelling the decision to read that particular page and save some valuable time. Best part is, all those tabs are out of sight until I want to re-evaluate/read them, uncluttering my browser AND my mind.

  • [Updated] Which security solution do you swear by?
    K kerem ispirli

same here. probably the initial flood of "approval pop-ups" scare people off of Comodo, but a few hours of training mode solves most of it. it allows control on everything every program does AND is really lightweight, which is the reason i like it so much. oh, and it's free for all, both home and commercial. Also Comodo Antivirus is quite decent. on the other hand, MSE is a real "setup and forget" solution. in my opinion, currently "MSE + Comodo Firewall + Comodo Defence+" would be a rockhard and feather weight free overall security solution, but I have always been too lazy to skip Comodo Antivirus and do a seperate intall of MSE :)
