Sounds like you need to upgrade to Web 2.0! Honestly, you're going to have to provide more details about the situation if you expect to get any guidance.

    L Larsenal

I'm in the middle of a project with plenty of number-crunching FORTRAN. My job is to pipe the I/O over the interweb using C#... what else? I'm not an old-school dev, so I had some catching up to do with FORTRAN.

  • DllNotFoundException
    L Larsenal

I am porting a C# app from .Net 1.1 to 2.0. The app uses a native DLL. In 1.1, I used the following code successfully: [DllImport(@"cbWaypoint.dll", EntryPoint="NEWJOB")] public static extern void NEWJOB(); The DLL was located in the same folder as the assembly (bin/Debug). However, when I try to do the same thing using 2.0, I get a DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'cbWaypoint.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) Is anyone aware of changes to PInvoke in 2.0 that would cause this problem?

The problem I'm having is transferring large amounts of text back to the calling C# function. FORTRAN seems to prefer fixed-length mechanisms. Sometimes the response will be 10 characters... sometimes it will be 10,000 characters. :~

Can you describe more details of your app? I am in the middle of reviewing the architecture of one of our critical systems. The challenge I have is that the app is serviced from some number-crunching FORTRAN code. Here is the life of a web request as it exists now: 1) Client makes request from Flash web client 2) Command transmitted over HTTP to ASPX page 3) ASPX page queries the computational engine somewhere in the app cluster over TCP/IP 4) (Application is written in C#) 5) App makes calls to methods in a compiled FORTRAN dll 6) results are written to a file (I know we need to fix this... If anyone knows how to return large amounts of text from FORTRAN to it's C# wrapper, lets talk!) 7) C# app reads file as results 8) C# app sends back to ASPX page over TCP/IP 9) response is formatted and sent as XML to Flash web client

Skins? Themes? Nope. Roll your own CSS so it suits you. I wrote it in Visual Studio 2005, so you can drag-and-drop elements around at your leisure at it (usually) still works. -- modified at 21:01 Thursday 26th January, 2006

This is one of my first attempts at adding an RSS feed to a website. I can load the feed at start.com, but it won't load on my Google personalized homepage. http://www.dlarsen.com/feed.aspx Any ideas? I think it may have something to do wtih the encoding, but I'm so new to this that it's just a guess. It does validate, but something else is still wrong since Google doesn't like it.

  • Follow up on my first attempt at trading options
    L Larsenal

A few weeks ago, I mentioned my first attempt at trading options here[^]. The last few weeks have been quite interesting. Being a newbie, I didn't sell when my first position was up 80% after I boasted to all CPians. I've been trading probably too much, but here are the results of my first 8 transactions. -16.7% (I was too greedy to sell at +80%) 25.0% -18.6% 61.5% 7.7% 21.7% 54.5% 17.4% It does take a lot of time and effort I'm finding out. I'm also finding out that it's a bit more fun than the project I'm working on right now.

  • My first attempt at trading options
    L Larsenal

I'm just starting with this whole options thing. I'm fairly certain that my portfolio wil beat 20% this year (and I just started Monday) if I stick with it, but this might be the naive wishful thinking of a young pup. I've heard so many people say they wished they had started the compounding investments when they were young. I'm saving approximately 30% of my after-tax income. Right now it's just in a lame-o savings account, but as I build more confidence I'll be putting more of that into a compounding situation--whether that be options, ETFs, or real estate is yet to be determined. Keep expenses down. Keep learning up. Learn from others' experiences and mistakes since you don't have enough time to make all the mistakes yourself. to die is gain

    The Lounge question

  • My first attempt at trading options
    L Larsenal

I've been watching the market for months, but actually put some money in on a position this past Monday. I'm still in the position, so I'd prefer to wait until I've exited to explain my method. I'm convinced that there's a lot of money to be made trading options, but anyone who thinks it's going to be easy money is horribly mistaken. Like anything else worth doing, it takes hard work and lots of discipline. I say this not from experience as much as I do from trying to heed other's wisdom. I'll explain more after I've exited the position.

Anyone else here trade stock options actively? I just started on Monday. I think I've been quite fortunate, as I've easily made 80% on my money on my first trade and it's still rising. I'm finding that the experience is much more stressful than the average day of coding. Anyone else have a lot of options experience?
