Time to celebrate -
Hey Chris / whoever has the power to change thingsWell, I disagree with some points - but as I said to Pete - I'll stop wasting everyone's time and figure out what I can do on my own on this topic. Maybe add text file to zip with source code or something... will see what works best with what is available to me. Thanks for taking time to respond and I appreciate that you said you understand the idea - who knows maybe something will be done about this down the road...

Hey Chris / whoever has the power to change thingsOK - I tried... wasted my time as always. Status quo it is. EDIT: I did type quite long response but didn't see the point - I am not here to argue; rather wanted to help with better handling of problematic case. Cheers.

Hey Chris / whoever has the power to change thingsI mean - you can view this problem from different perspectives. But the core of the problem is if I leave version of code here on CodeProject people will download that version of code and then CAN'T CONTRIBUTE. Exact reason why Git was invented.

Hey Chris / whoever has the power to change thingsYeah - obviously system is easy to trick... but so is current one - i.e. I could just put up link to empty zip (or text file with link to GitHub) and say it source code download. So, I am wondering, could we find a way to improve this? Like if you are against counting clicks to repository (even though it's the same thing - intent is to browser source code) could I link to zip that downloads repository: https://github.com/lepipele/csharpWebCam/archive/master.zip[^] I definitely think that linking Git repository is improvement over linking zip with source code and people shouldn't be penalized for using it. Thanks for listening and let me know what is decided - I could help with implementing this if you are short on dev resources.

Hey Chris / whoever has the power to change thingsAny response on this: http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/5030350/Reputation-for-downloads-of-article-source-code.aspx[^] ?

Reputation for downloads of article source codeAny response on this?

Reputation for downloads of article source codeI've just took a look at how reputation increases and found that only one of my article is now helping my reputation, i.e.: Introduction to PayPal for C# - ASP.NET developers[^] This article was quite helpful also: Versatile WebCam C# library[^] But since I was trying to collaborate with others, I've moved my source code to GitHub repository. Now, the problem is - source code downloads no longer count - i.e. when people go to GitHub and download source, obviously CodeProject can't take those downloads into account. So, I am wondering - is it possible to solve this problem in some way? Like count click on "Download source" link as a download? Obviously you guys at CodeProject are also interested in supporting scenario where readers of the article can submit pull requests. And we, authors, should get credit - i.e. not get penalized if we are making our source available as Git repo rather than simple zip file. If you have any suggestion how I can do both (keep my GitHub repo and get reputation credit for source download on CodeProject) - please let me know.

Why Android development sucks todayYeah, that's exactly what I said 3+ years ago in my article - Windows Mobile, iPhone, Android - Marketplace Comparison[^] If you guys are coming from C#/Visual Studio background, be sure to check out http://xamarin.com/monoforandroid[^] - it's a shame that Google is not actively supporting those guys @ Xamarin, considering their runtime is actually way faster than Dalvik; see this link: http://blog.xamarin.com/android-in-c-sharp/#performance[^].

Sinofsky sackedYou are probably right, 5 years is too short time period. But I would be happy if just average consumers move over to Android - Microsoft can have "enterprise market". So, if we see the same transition that happened when Microsoft took OS space from IBM - good enough.
-
Sinofsky sackedI think Google will drive Microsoft out of OS space with Android. I would prefer someone else (who doesn't track people as much as Google does), but I guess one must be realistic - only those 3 players have enough resources and competence currently to do well in OS space.

M*the******** (insert lots of beeps here)Yeah... and also suggest him to insure the tools. And insure VERY secure box also. And make sure that box is such that it can't be moved from the site. And he probably would need GPS tracking of the box in case thieves do manage to move the box. Just saying.

M*the******** (insert lots of beeps here):( this reply makes me sad

I Give Up.Take care
-
Sinofsky sackedYeah, big companies always stick for a long time... hate the fact that IBM is still around - money they take from consulting would be much better spent on someone else ;(
-
Sinofsky sackedI'm actually glad he left. That will only speed up the demise of Microsoft, which is a good thing - Windows 8 and whole direction company has been taking lately is beyond terrible (Development Certificates in VS). Hopefully in next 5 years we'll get an OS that doesn't require you to jump through 1000 hoops in order to have your app installed: http://www.pcgamesn.com/minecraft/notch-refuses-certify-minecraft-windows-8-goes-rogue[^]

Question for Chris regarding articles and commentsWhat about other two links I've posted?
-
Question for Chris regarding articles and commentsI somewhat expected this kind of response. But I guess it was worth a shot since I truly enjoyed writing articles on CodeProject and would love if I could still do that, only without getting trolled. Speaking of current system I would love if it worked. But it doesn't - there are posts with more than 5 negative votes and they are STILL showing up in the timeline; aren't hidden or grayed out. I understand that site benefits from more visits, trolling and flame wars - but what is completely ignored is the time and energy of the author; majority of them just gives up checking on comments and accept that their effort will be ___ on. Here are some examples - you tell me if they are really adding any real value to articles or are "beneficial to readers": http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/4338474/My-vote-of-1-Useless.aspx[^] http://www.codeproject.com/script/Forums/Messages.aspx?fmid=2219960[^] http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/3537485/My-vote-of-1.aspx[^] I really wanted to talk more about this, but as I see status quo will be upheld - I don't want to put more emotion and time into this.

Question for Chris regarding articles and comments [moved]Well said my friend. I can't wait for some fancy brainwave detector to replace keyboard and mouse - all this will be much easier ;)

Question for Chris regarding articles and commentsI am wondering if there are plans to finally roll out support for allowing article writers to moderate comments on their article. Of course I don't expect that all us authors will get ability to moderate - but if you are above certain threshold, you should be able to moderate. And not only this would allow good article writers to easily battle with trolls and content that's simply not appropriate on the page where there article is - it would be good motivation to keep writing. (Admins, I have same thread in Lounge, please delete it)
