  • How do you enable "text to speech" on Vista?

It's speaking what's on the screen, and every menu I have selected, instead of what I want it to speak (the sentence I highlighted)! :(

Could you be more specific? I turned the Narrator on already, it just reads what's on the screen. When I select a sentence, it still doesn't speak that sentence. What button do I need to press? On Mac, it's very easy, you just select what you want it to speak.

If you select and highlight a sentence, how do you let Vista speak it out loud? I have looked at Accessibility, but still no luck.

No, I was just curious and comparing Vista's IIS and Server's IIS. They are offerig either Linux or additional $20 for Windows Server 2003.

It's an option for dedicated hosting. Only cost additional $20 a month for Windows 2003.

Okay, so the IIS is the software server that actually hosts a website on a computer, is that correct? If that's the case, theorically, you can install Windows XP/Vista on the hosting machine, instead of Windows Server 2003/2008? Theorically. So what are the key benefts do Windows Server provide you over XP/Vista? Thanks

  • Power plan on vista keeps changing back to default.
    L Link2006

I did a search on google, looks like others are experiencing the same problem. No known solution found so far. I have it set to never go to sleep either plugged-in or on battery, but keeps changing back to its default each time I unplug the power or plug it back. Do you guys also experience the same problem?

    L Link2006

That tech support told me that I won't be able to run Exchange Server even if I choose self-managed server. So, if Exchange Server requires Windows Server to run, I should be able to install Exchange Server if I choose self-managed package! I'm going to ask him again. hmm...

I've never used Exchange Server so can't help you with any comparisons except to say that Exchange Server is not an OS, it is a mail server as is MailEnable.

Okay, I just got back from a tech support. Actually Exchange Server is a standalone Operating System, not like MailEnable, which is just a server software.

    L Link2006

So I was looking to switch to dedicated hosting from a hosting company, and was wondering how their email service support works. From what I've learned, a 3rd party mail server software called MailEnable will be installed on Windows Server 2003 along with Plesk. This is the first time I've heard about MailEnable, so how does it compare to Microsoft Exchange Server? Is Microsoft Exchange Server also insalled on Window Server to function? (I thought Microsoft Exchange Server was a server Operating System, but apparently I was wrong) Thanks

  • RAW and JPEG

I do all my prints and image processing directly off RAW, it never goes through JPEG any more. But it took me a while to get all my tools to support RAW formats. I only convert to jpeg to send to someone else or upload for someone to look at. When I enter an image in the state fair, it is printed directly off the RAW image.

Okay, so if a RAW file is just a direct dump from the sensors, it's mostly un-tweaked. If you use Photoshop to do all the color corrections, and tweaking, etc, shouldn't it produce a better image? But from what I understand, once you altered the RAW file, you can not save it to the original RAW file anymore.

  • RAW and JPEG
    L Link2006

Okay I have never had a digital camera that allows storing RAW image; but lately I've been eying on the Canon PowerShot G9, which can store RAW. I have some questions. 1.) Most camera allow you to set the compression level (ie, normal, fine, SuperFine). Does that mean that those regular camera compresses the image from the original image (assuming that's RAW) to JPEG right away, whereas on the camera that allows RAW stores the original image without any compression? 2.) I assume that once you have that RAW file, you would convert it to JPEG using software like photoshop? 3.) From you experience, which one produces better quality JPEG image? Software like photoshop? Or Camera's digital processor like Canon's DIGIC III? Thanks

  • Some questions about the Vista
    L Link2006

Run as Administrator: 1.) When your account type is administrator, why do you need to set the shortcut to "Run as Administrator" in order to have that privilege? Shouldn't that be the default privilege? Partitions: 2.) Back in the DOS days, up until XP, there are "Primary Partition", and the rest of the physical harddrive is called "Extended Partition", which includes "logical Partition". For example, drives C: D: and E:, C is the Primary Partition, and D, E are Logical Partitions that are part of the Extended Partition. Then you set the drive that contains Master Boot Record to be "Active", usually it's the C drive. When I use the Vista CD to partition and format the drive, every drive is set as "Primary" itself. Are there any distintions between Primary, extended, and logical partitions in the Vista? Or is this concept not used anymore? I used to use Partition Magic to partition harddrive, and before that, fdisk. This is the first time I use Vista CD to do this task, so I don't know if it's any different with XP CD. Thanks
