XML config filesThanks for the tips .S.Rod. ! I will definately look into Mozilla. .S.Rod. wrote: If you need an advanced Windows implementation Actually something simple, yet reliable, will do the trick. Just the ability to connect to the server and download the XML file as text, so that the contents can be examined. In fact, something that could be wrapped into a single function would probably fit best into a project such as this. For this, I'll look into InternetOpenUrl. -- Loren Brewer

XML config filesDoes anyone know of a cross-platform library to connect to and read from URLs? We would like to add a feature to the following article's code that would allow us to grab an XML config file from an intranet (or the Internet). It would be ideal if someone could point out an existing article (or a place that provides example code) that accomplishes this cross-platform, but even a Windows specific article/implementation would be good enough to get the ball rolling. Please see Arnaud's XML application parameter article[^] for further information. Anybody know of any resources? Thanks :-D -- Loren Brewer

Woohoooo! Sharing Code. (XML)Well, I submitted my first code to CP last night. Man it does feel good! Even though it was not my article, I made an update to someone else's code and posted it to the article. The article (thanks Arnaud!) is about using XML to store your application's config file in an XML format. In case you're interested: http://www.codeproject.com/soap/paramio.asp[^] It just feels good knowing that maybe someone else will find my update useful and actually use it in their code too. Just thought I'd share :-D -- Loren Brewer

Smiley anyone?Anyone care to take a guess as to how many smileys (including all variants) have been used in the CP Lounge? Maybe someone could write a parser to count them up... Behold ***The Battle of the SMILEYS*** ! :););P:-D:(:((:-O:zzz::omg::wtf::rolleyes::laugh::mad::confused::~ :| X| :suss::cool::eek::rose: -- Loren

What are your favorite tools...What tools do you like to use for creating database diagrams? Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), Data State Transition Diagrams, etc. Ideally, I'm looking for something that analyzes what you have (either the DB directly, or the DDL used to create it) along with relationship info and spits out diagrams. Do any tools like this exist? If so, what are they? If not, what do you use to get the job done? -- Loren Brewer

Shareware Download SitesOkay... an earlier thread got me thinking about shareware sites. I know we all know about the *biggies* like CNET, ZDNet, and TUCOWS. But what other ones do you like to visit? Are there any smaller or medium sized ones that you *love* to visit? Which one(s) do you spend your most time at? Which ONE is your absolute favorite? Why? Let's see how many we can all name ;P (50 points for the one who can name the most :-D) -- Loren Brewer

Code for website advertisingThanks Uwe! :) Any more suggestions from others? -- Loren Brewer

Code for website advertisingDo any of you CPians know if the code for the "advertising manager" for CP is available? (something that randomly selects a banner ad, updates count in db, login for real-time stats, etc. etc. etc.) I've tried running several searches, and have looked through several categories as well... all to no avail. I'm looking to add advertising to my website, and thought it would be nice if I didn't have to spend time on a homegrown solution. If I could find something that I could use as a drop in I'd be very happy! ;P If the CP code for this is not available, what would you recommend? What do you use for your site? A homegrown solution, or something that you found and used as a drop-in? I'm open to any and all suggestions... free or otherwise! :-DThanks:-D -- Loren Brewer

Survey GraphsI'm aware that certain parts of the CP site are available for download and use (the forum code, for example). But I was unable to find anything on those sexy graphs for the survey results. (The ones that show the number of votes for each possible answer, the total number of votes, and the bar graphs that go with.) Does anyone know if code for the generation of these graphs is available for download, and if so where I would be able to find it? Thanks! :):):)

CPian's opinionsBrian Delahunty wrote: I was just wondering waht other CPian's views were on the number of posts that you can view on any one page. One thing that would be cool would be to have the last post on the page automatically open up as the top post of the next page when it is clicked. That way you don't have to click 'next' to continue reading the posts. Another thing that would be extremely nice (alread mentioned in another post of this thread) would be to have the ability to expand all posts on the current page. Even having the ability to expand all posts onto a single page from a given thread, regardless of the number of posts, would be handy. Just my $0.02. ;P
