  • Looking for an ASP.net or PHP mail application I can put on my domain to access gmail

What is Regulator? I have full admin rights so can install software if I like. I also have RDP as I need to connect to internal servers. I'm not sure if I can use RDP to connect out to my home computer, if they can disable this via a policy or because all traffic goes through the bank proxy? If I setup RDP via my home computer and router can you provide a link/tutorial on how to do this? I've never done it before, thanks.

  • Looking for an ASP.net or PHP mail application I can put on my domain to access gmail
    M m3ntat_

Hi there, I am a contractor/freelancer and at my current work and other sites Gmail is blocked, I own several of my own domains and have shared hosting (Windows Server 2008, IIS7, .net 3.5, PHP). I would like to install some software package/library on my domain that will allow me to function as close to possible as if I was using gmail, threaded conversation view, labels, sync my contacts? Any suggestions on this? I don't mind paying for the software either. An alternative would be to somehow implement some generic proxy hosted on my domain to allow me to browse any website e.g. Facebook which is also blocked. Another alternative would be to host some remote workstation control web-based app on my domain to connect to my home computer? if this is even possible? Apps/websites such as logmein and the like are also blocked at work. Thanks

I have just come back into looking for work (5 years .net experience) and I am seeing a serious decline on the rates, several asp.net web developer roles at £150-200, lots at £200-250 well down on what I was expecting. Also there are quite a few perm jobs advertised at £25-35k which a year or two back would have been £35-45k+ Is this just hiring managers and recruiters putting the squeeze on us because there are more applicants so they can and see who will accept lower rates just to get employed? Or are recruiters (for contract) advertising at lower rates in an attempt to maximise their agency margin?

  • Report Scheduler c# GUI and SQL schema help
    M m3ntat_

Hi there we have an in-house reporting system that I have been tasked to create a report scheduler for, I am thinking of mimicking the interface used in Windows for Scheduled Tasks so will build a GUI in c# where you choose from radio buttons Daily Weekly Monthly One time only then configure the options depending on which first option you chose, configure your report parameters and save. This info will all be saved in the Database in my own schema (yet to define) and will be run via a scheduled sql job that processes all the data and emails out the reports. The report scheduler GUI will be a client side process users will do in our organisation and the sending of reports server side. I already have all the code for creating the reports with the defined params and emailing out reports via a sql job. My question is what schema to use for saving the schedule/period data? I have made a start but can be quite complicated and I'm sure someone has done this before or knows how Windows Scheduled Tasks does it. Also is there a code project example of the GUI for this already somewhere? I couldn't find anything. Something that looks kind of like http://www.recrystallize.com/merchant/crystaldesk/reportscheduler.htm Thanks, m.

  • Good free Wiki, intranet implementation in ASP.NET - suggestions?
    M m3ntat_

I have just been reading on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/sharepoint/default.aspx[^] so it can do all that and for free? Is writing your own web parts just the same or similar to traditional asp.net development? Also is their a community/directory of web parts that do things, like a forum, photo album, whatever, firm directory?

  • Good free Wiki, intranet implementation in ASP.NET - suggestions?
    M m3ntat_

Hi there, I'd like to setup a company intranet/wiki/document management(with free text search if possible), maybe blog system at my workplace. We will host it locally with whatever technology the system uses under IIS or whatever. Will mainly use for centralising links to documents, showcase documentation around development processes, investment team processes, would like a firm directory (of users, photo, extn etc) as well. Any suggestions on free software that will do this? I'd prefer if it was a c# open source implementation so I could alter or extend myself easily. Also if there is an addon/extension community with good volume supporting the system would be ideal. Thanks.

  • Search History
    M m3ntat_

Hi all, I just had an idea over the weekend and was wondering if there is any products out there already. I find myself asking the question what was that website where I was looking at ..... last week or last month. I know what I was looking at so end up redoing a search on those keywords to try and get back to the website I was on. This is slow, frustrating and often unsuccessful. Google keeps my search as part of my sign in with the Google account, but I really want it to work with every page I have visited from my browser, not just search on. I know I can attempt to use the browser history to find the page but it is pretty crap and tiresome, what I really want is some plug-in for my browser that does a Google type search on keywords that is constrained to the list of web addresses contained in my browser history. Anyone know of anything like this? Would you find it useful? Should I write such a plug-in? It would also be nice if the history was portable across computers, not sure of the best way to implement that though. Keen to hear your thoughts.

  • Programming/Work Keyboard & Mouse
    M m3ntat_

I am probably going to go for the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. Mouse I was looking at the logitech g5, but looks like the g7 is the latest and greatest so will prob get that. Has anyone used the Microsoft Natural Wireless Laster Mouse 6000? Is MS ergo answer, wonder what people think, Amazon reviews suggest it is better for people with big hands, I am only 5'7" so hands aren't that big. Also pad, I will prob get the Steelpad 5L. What do you all think?

I have never used a natural/ergonomic keyboard before, does it take much getting used to for programming etc? Is there really that much of a difference? I was looking at the logitech g5 laser for the mouse. Maybe I should go wireless tho because of the tail, but don't want the hassle of batteries/charging it etc.

I was just wondering what music do most of you program to? I find chucking my headphones on at work blocks everyone out and I can code much faster and keep my train of thought when listening to music with no or little lyrics. I usually listen to upbeat trance or dance type music which I find keeps me alert and working fast. Currently reviving some Fat Boy Slim, Daft Punk, Felix Da House cat etc and is working well. Looking for some other gems to program by, any good suggestions? Thanks

yeah I agree, this is probably the best way. I just thought it this day and age of technology there might be self destructing electronic documents or something outthere?

Not actually a boss per-se, am contracting, discussing contract renewals other terms etc, it is a difficult situation, which is remote so can't print and burn option haha :-). I don't want him to forward to the agent. Obviously can't prevent print screen, but looking to secure as best can, so can view doc only with password and duration, disable copy/paste, disable print. Thanks

  • Limited time secure document
    M m3ntat_

Hey, I have a requirement, to send an email+spreadsheet to a boss, discussing sensitive information. I want to ensure that myself and him are the only ones who can see this information, I can encrypt, password protect the spreadsheet, I could put the contents of the email in a word document and do the same and give my boss the password and send him the email with these 2 docs. But he could still forward this on to someone give them the password and they can view it. Is there a way I can make this document only last for 1 day or something like (self destruct). Best solution would be I send him a link, he views the information in a browser (served up from some secure provider) can't save anything local and then ends the session, he has access to this say for one day. Does anyone know of anything like this or had a similar requirement and what you did? Thanks heaps, looking to send this today.
