We did this desktop trick too, only with an error message on it. Swapping cables between 2 colleagues' monitors can be fun too. My favourite though is when I changed a boot.ini to require a selection between some funny/non-existing OSes.

In Holland there are 2 wait days for ill employees. That means the first 2 days of your illness are at the expense of your boss, more days are covered by their insurance. If you become ill during a holiday it is converted back to 'ill'. Wether you get a surprise medical check at home is company dependend.

Dang you got us. Great example of data-massage though. In Holland (the Netherlands) the minimum is 20, but the average is probably closer to 30. I get 25 days to pick myself and 6 determined by the company. Those are generally used to give us a long weekend when a public holiday is on tuesday or thursday.

Uhm, you could return false if something went wrong (No DB connection, index out of range e.g.). In that case a returncode or Exception would be more convenient. But that wasn't the question.

Occasionally I do not have a headache. Normally it is bearable, just elevated pressure and throbbing with sometimes a sudden sting. With more stress and/or less sleep it gets worse. I can't stand bright light and loud noises. For me it helps to tense and relax mouth and jaw muscles or massage my eye sockets (like chewing on a tennisball), but not much.
