Has anyone here ever been called Code Monkey?

Yes, but never by a professional. It all depends on how you see the term. I tend to take it as a complement - actually. You're agile and limber enough to swing through the mazes of code. And they're one of the smarter species... If it was continually used in a professional environment, I'd slowly lose respect for the source. It's like calling an architect an origami maker - sure, it might go together pretty, but does anybody care for more than a few weeks?

  • am I the only guy annoyed with Microsoft?
    M madprogrammi

Hehe. I'm just going to sit here in my corner of the desktop usage share, and watch the newest Microsoft drama roll by with my pet penguin. On a slightly more serious note, I did use the insider preview of 10 (now I have to work on my brother's machine, which got upgraded). It's junk the way I see it - especially if you're not using a standard setup. It feels more like they reskinned Windows 7 than did anything innovative. Microsoft should stop trying so hard to be hip, and go back to the solid production machines they had a reputation for.

  • Using a Mac, [a bit over] a week later
    M madprogrammi

Don't often post here, but seeing this, I just had to say something. I used Windows devices until a few years ago, until I found Linux. That's all I've used since, except for maintaining enough knowledge to fix other peoples Windows computers. As for something on topic..

I'm not a fan of their philosophy or OS design, and how oversimplified everything seems. The first impression I got, helping someone install a new version of OSX, was that it seemed fairly familiar to some of my Linux installs. It's all a matter of getting used to, I suppose. However, I don't see how anybody could use these things for production. To each his own.

  • Why Unit Test
    M madprogrammi

I've never unit tested. Unless running the program in a debugger, handing my keyboard to a small child, and telling them "Smash a ton of keys" counts.

  • Virutal machines...
    M madprogrammi

I use a few virtual machines as well. Nothing fancy, just a few for other systems running under my Arch x86_64 host. I found it's also possible to clone the VMs to a raw image, then dd them to a real external drive to run on real hardware. For Windows, you'd do something along the lines of

    VBoxManager --format raw

Don't know what you'd do to copy that to a physical drive :D not a big Windows fan.

Whoever created the Undo button is a genius.
