Why AI can’t spell ‘strawberry’ -
Asynchronous waaahh???this. was trying to recall why I disliked asynchronous, and something with JavaScript, but seeing op post and then quick lookup "var response = await fetch(url)", that seems so easy. Thinking I thought you had to do callback functions. So yeah, you can do both, oh neat. But that whole callback thing urks me. It's more how the flow of data I see in my head function get this data now with the data do X thing but callback function get this data end function some other function now do thing with this data its that separation of functions which my internal mapping does not like

80% of developers are unhappy. The problem is not AI, nor is codingI would suggest that those take the time out of their work to fill out a stack overflow survey are already likely to be unhappy and not focused on doing work :suss:

Do you trust the "Cloud"?depends what you mean by Cloud another persons server, cause that all it is. or Cloud Storage specifically. Yeah no, that is way you have 3 points of backup for important data the Data, local backup, redundant backup, and offsite backup the "cloud storage" is just one of those points. if talking about the internet as a whole, and what your data being used for. Don't go do stupid things you would be in trouble for WHEN not if it gets misused. Say like have a chat with your buddies on beating up someone. As relating to cloudstrike issue, big distruption (yes critical for some with medical issues), but compared to the wannacry issue, far less data loss. Why have DVDs, because it might not be on [streaming service] forever, and the internet might go out and you want something to watch. Or, the internet is out and get on with doing something different.

Google and Microsoft consume more power than some countriesso a companies that operates across multiple counties and contributes to those countries total energy consumption has a high energy consumption what a surprise

Nearly half of US firms using AI say goal is to cut staffing costs1790: so what this new machine going to do? I will allow 1 person to make fabric as fast as 10 people oh, what will the other 9 people do? I don't know, but I will pay you 1.2% more 1980s: what do you mean we don't need the lino type machines any more. Oh we also only need like 1 out of 5 people to do this new machine and get even more newspapers made

Google is killing infinite scroll on search results1, didn't realise was a thing. Apparently been in places since 2022 on desktop 2, are they not already optimising the first section as if page 1 results, so I do not get how returning to pagination they can make improvements. Or are people actually sharing links with page2 or more as a thing to be worth the effort

I think we can resolve the Fermi Paradox.I will lean on the side that all life seeks self survival, and so large collections are difficult to maintained. Selfishness limits a upper limit.

Pin numbers.I'm smart, to many would use 5050, so 5150 :-\

Visual Basic 6 did this, why can't you, C#?yes, but the "new" switch expression 🤤

Do you embed classes within classes?yes and I will do it again I tells you! Enum class part of another, or groups of classes that linked, mainly object model and not really any functions/methods inside. My mind views it like the document plan, its one piece of paper the defines the object, so why would I want to have multiple pieces of paper, individually they are useless

Todayhaving watched a youtube on the impact and enginerring of the Biro ballpoint (crystal), the impact that offered literacy rates, I wonder if would have noticed that, though that took off start of 1900s so maybe already established like how a 20 year old views the internet? Also if involved in fixing any of your own Y2K problems, and hopefully you will be laughing at the chaos of 2038 problem? happy birthday

The question that no LLM can answer and why it is importantSee if can make the following make some sense. the LLMs currently GENERATE output, not reference it. Meaning that they have been done to simulate human thinking in a fashion. Like if you ask someone give me a sentence. Person has to figure out context, they know what a sentence should be, but then fill in the content to form the sentence and either coherent of wtf. Some people are great at this and many are not. but if ask give me a sentence BASED on a shakespear play, that narrows down the content, and possibly the top of the mind words would (most populare that person knows) would steer the sentence. add receite a line from shakespear, that is more specific. Can person recall a line verbatum, or they use context they know how a shakepsear sentence is done to mix recall and construction. the LLMs, negate reference and just jumble all the data, and spit out something. Hence the lack of factual data. Contrast with google index which links to specific data. Mix the two and then suggestion comes into play which is the next step. Load a LLM with your domain data and someone can ask, give me a wedding dress with nice pattern, and will write "this one has recommendations for late spring, and here is the link" With copywrite issues making that direct refernce, unless for webpages is currently a challenge on mass, unless individuals, which is what the LLMs are pushing out creators to make

You’re not really still using Windows XP, are you?XP embeded, but many ATMs are XP, so many. I am a bit confused what the writers tone is suppoded to be. Like yeah, if its not connecting to the internet, what the harm. Or they the type to get a new phone ever year, just because its new. And then even if it is connected to the internet, depends what you doing. If setup for single point of communication to send out only data on a none standard port, fine, none issue its working. Patches and updates are for what. Oh no, not updated some functionality which never touch, and so uptime of machine is at 99.999% time, which is about 5 minutes downtime in the year. best not tell them that banks still running on mainframes from the 80s.

Why does it have to be horrible?yes its a bit to get head around css/html, but also I would suggest it might be a mindset, or design approach that might need to step back and think why so many devices? Focus on the main device, main size and layout first. and then consider it not in pixels, but percentages of the width or height.

Download speedsIn another comment you mention unlimited bandwidth on your plan, so assuming Max? looking through the "learn more" section: "Monthly Bandwidth/Data Transfer - Unlimited" This tells you nothing what they mean by bandwidth. Rate of transfer vs amount of transfer. If you are getting 10mb/s and support said that normal, that might be they are limiting transfer to 10MB/s BUT - you have unlimited amount for the month. so not like 50GB the basic plan has. Bandwidth sadly can be marketed as both amount of rate.

Google agrees to destroy browsing data collected in Incognito modeDestroy is the term for breaking up the data into as many possible pieces and information to gain the maximum amount of money from the single point of data. You destroy the data
