I use WMWare Player 3, It is free and allows 4CPUs in the guest. The reason I choose it over VirtualBox is that it had better graphics support, and speed wise was slightly faster

Strange crushBSTR are wide chars. Unless you are compiling in UNICODE this is a very bad cast. Check out WideCharToMultiByte to convert from WCHAR/BSTR to char

COM design questionIf the two objects are seperate COM objects then it simply a case of each having a different Class ID (CLSID) and both supporting the same Interface ID (IID). Your outer program can create an instance of the either object by selecting the relavent Class ID in the CoCreateInstance call :)

file recovery after a ****ing xp crashThis has happened to me a couple of times - usually when I got a BSOD in the NTFS file system :mad: The CPP files were totally trashed, so I had to delete them and recover from that other wonder MS product source safe.
