Here in Canada there are many things like this: -Fresh out of University. Government will subisidize 80% of their salary -Research Fund. Hiring someone to do research in a field not yet explored in Canada. Government will subsidize a lot of the funding/salaries -Hiring Disabled people etc.

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview... -
Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...Yea, I've seen that too. My boss and I actually google people he interviews to see where they pop up in the newspapers as far as weddings & children go so we don't need to ask them... I wonder if that's illegal too :D

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...It depends on the building. Where I currently work (we're on the 2nd story, and parking is in the basement) there are no elevators or disabled access. The reason? THis building was built before those laws were made so it does not need to be upgraded to meet them as it was grandfathered in. We have single bathroom stalls, meaning only one person can go in them at one time, which means they're unisex, male and female can both use them. (yea no urinals, kinda annoying for the guys :(

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...I've always told people: It's not what you know, it's who you know and what you can learn. In Canada, it's not as bad as in India (where the report was taken I asume). But let's look at construction. If a contractor needed to hire someone, he would hire a man 99% of the time because they're naturally stronger, can put up with more harasment on the job site, can work longer hours, and doesn't get as emotional. Sure it might be sexist, however, as far as a contractor is concerned, there's a job to be done and he wants it to get done as quickly and as proper as possible. I worked at a place where the employer would never hire anyone with an "accent". THe reason? The company delt with USA cops, and when they phoned in for support, he wanted them to talk to someone they could understand. I'm not saying they're the best roll-model employers, but when you look at it: A business exists to make money, not to employ people. If employing someone will lose them money they will not employ them.

Create a Network Drive that links to a websiteThanks for the links guys (both of you).

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...True, the only reason most would "ask it" would be to use it as a bias. I just find it amazing you cannot, even though you can find it out quite easily. Sex - easiest to find out. THere is no need to ask, but even if you know the answer, you still can't ask it. It's more a question about freedom. Age - Look at the schooling. When they graduated, when they started work. It's pretty easy to get how old they are within 3 years. yet, you cannot ask it.
-
Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...In all honesty I could care less how old/young someone is, or what sex they are. It's just funny how it's almost illegal to ask it during an interview.

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?

Things an employer cannot ask during an interview...So my boss is doing an interview for a few coop students (coop is like internship in the USA). I gave him a question and said he should ask it, this question was: Give the intervewee a Tank, Lava Lamp, Cake and a Balloon. And then ask the person what they'd do with it. To test it out my boss asked us developers what we'd do, and instantly one person said: "Run the Customers over with the tank and then go back to work and celebrate by eating cake, and decorate your desk with baloons and lavalamps". Another said "Shoot the customers with the tank, use the cake as a diversion so management doesn't find out, scare the secrataryoffice administrator with the baloon and then use the lava lamp to make your desk look cool." We had a good laugh... we then started talking about what you "cannot" ask during an interview. Which include: -Person Age -Persons Religion -Persons Political Standing -Persons Sex The 1st and the last bugged me as I believe an employer should have total control over who they hire, and why they hire them. But asking someone their "Sex"... in Canada, if you ask someone their "Sex" and you do NOT hire them, you can be: Sued, taken to a tribunal, arrested and many other dumb things. Stupid laws. No wonder so many people are confused, no one ever asked them what sex they were

Create a Network Drive that links to a websiteI've seen this done with Google Mail (gMail), Flickr, and I believe MS is doing it now. Basically, a user has a directory on a web site that they can upload files to. Instead of always uploading files there, they might want to Map that online directory as a network drive on their computer. Does anyone know how this is done or where any resources on this are hidden? It's a technology that is overlooked by many, but it's a very useful one and userfriendly one. Thanks

The oldest tool what you still useRock when I can't find a Hammer. Hamme when I can't find my Sword Sword when I can't find my Bow Bow when I can't find my gun. (And this is true. Deer hit me the other day and I didn't have my gun in my trunk so I lookd for my hunting bow, that wasn't there, and my sword/boui knife wasn't in my car either... so I took my hammer out, but the handle was broken so I used a rock to kill the deer so it wouldn't suffer... pretty funny when you think of it haha). oh.. For computers? notepad.

Clueless recruitersI've had my fair share of them. Some of the "offers" I even show to my manager to spread the humour. The best one I had is one Company in the Texas, USA wanted to hire me for a lead developer. I told the Recruiter my wife and I did not want to relocate to the states. HOwever, if the company wanted to relocate to Kamloops, BC I would consider it. The recruiter told me he'd get back in touch. (I couldn't believe he said that after I told him what I already did). I get a phone call back a few days later from the same recruiter, he told me the company didn't have any plans to relocate to Kamloops. Would I still be interested in moving to Texas? Again, I told him I'd only consider it if they moved their entire company to Kamloops.... Again he told me he'd get back in touch with me. A few weeks later I got another call from him saying they declined the offer for me to purchase their company and move it to Kamloops... I was scared... I thought I was in the Twilight zone...

The fight against [Microsoft Asp.Net] Ajax [modified]The real issues are not problems with AJAX at all. the t=f23549235g isn't an issue. QueryString key's do not have any restrictions on how short they are (1 length is minimum). So having MySite?t=32984 is valid, so I'm not sure why the validator is puking on you. When you first put AJAX into your software, you will have a bit of work to do... especially if your solution has more than 35 projects and huge complex architecture.... a lot of work....

Buying downloadable music online WTF?If you live in Canada, it is legal to download MP3 files. It doesn't matter the source. It'd illegal to UPLOAD but it's legal to DOWNLOAD. It was ruled by a judge a few years ago. Also, if you didn't know, whenever you purchase a blank CD/DVD in Canada, you are charged a small tax. That tax is to cover copying music/movies onto that media. Screw RIAA and give me a nice buffalo burger!

Buying downloadable music online WTF?I download 99% of all my songs (100% legal in Canada). I only purchase music when I want to support the author (local bands, hard to find christian music, etc.) RIAA can kiss my butt.

I'd like some heat please!-29C (your -20F) is fine! Way better than +29C. Some things to help you keep warm: -Do not wear cotton -Dress in layers. Preferably with a Polyester/Wool base layer. -Put your parets to work by making them get you wood. I'm from Kamloops B.C., Canada. It's wild here with temperatures. Summer will get to +50C and winter will get to -40C (no wind chill factor). You can always put more clothes on... you'll get arrested for taking too much off.

How Survivor should be doneJust to start off with - my wife and I don't subscribe to any TV channels - waste of time. one of the biggest wastes of time in TV is the dumb show called Survivor. This show... which should be called "look at my skin" or "Watch me complain" or "Look i'm a wimp" needs to have a whole new face lift. I Propose the following: -No more tropical areas. They should be thrown into the rough tundra of Canada, or the northern forests of Russia. You could also do one in the Middle East (You can't wear bikini's there). -Make them survive. THe last person alive/standing/not-deadish..ly wins. You could change the name to be "Whoever is alive at the end wins", but I think Japan / China already has a few shows like that (That's what I got after watching simpsons....):->
